2011 RAFW Backstage Beauty Report: Alex Perry
2011 RAFW: Alex Perry

Napoleon Perdis' handiwork was definitely the focal point of the Alex Perry beauty look. Napoleon describes his inspiration as "a Cuban princess with a hint of the Orient," which translated into a dramatic yellow and purple feline eye. Hair director, Dario Cotroneo called the hair "high quality and minimalistic," opting for a ballerina ponytail that was in line with the eyebrows, giving the girls a "facelift" effect. On nails was Essie Ballet slippers, a sheer, pretty and feminine colour that was described by Essie's Ali Magliveras as "typically Alex Perry".

STEP 1: Prep the hair with Tonic Styling Spray to get the hair weighted and use a straightener to iron the hair.
STEP 2: Pull the strands backs with hat elastic — use bungy elastic at home — to create a ponytail. To make it super sleek, Dario and the rest of the Alterna team created two ponytails. The first pony should be secured just below the crown in line with the brow and the second ponytail secured over the top.
STEP 3: Spray working hairspray on padded brush, not directly on hair to avoid wetting hair, and run that over the ponytail.
STEP 4: The Alex Perry look was finished with a hair weft around the ponytail, cut bluntly so it has a paintbrush finish to it.
