Australian TV’s night of nights, the Logie Awards, were held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne last night, and plenty of stars walked the red carpet. Hamish Blake and Andy Lee suited up for occasion, most popular new male talent winner Joel Madden represented The Voice on its season two premiere night, Carrie Bickmore and Samara Weaving brought colour to the carpet, and presenter Jennifer Hawkins sparkled in black. Last night’s Logie Awards handed out a mix of public- and peer-voted honours to the best of the Australian television industry. It was a successful night for Offspring’s Asher Keddie, who took home most popular actress and the Gold Logie, while Home and Away’s Steve Peacocke was handed the most popular actor award for his role as Brax on the show. Two of Channel Nine’s new shows in 2012, The Voice and House Husbands, proved to be a hit with home viewers, and even though Joel Madden isn't new to the entertainment industry (and an American), he was awarded most popular new male talent; Puberty Blues star Brenna Harding won the equivalent in the female category.
In the outstanding categories, the indigenous stories reigned, with wins for Redfern Now and Deborah Mailman in Mabo. Channel Nine also had success with the miniseries Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War, which resonated with audiences and the industry.

It's TV's night of nights, and the leading ladies of the show did not disappoint us when it came to their red carpet choices. Golden girl of the night, Carrie Bickmore (she's up for the biggest award of the show, the Gold Logie) wowed when she hit the carpet in a watermelon-hued Steven Khalil gown. Rebecca Judd was on the red carpet next, in a sexy and sheer J'Aton number, while Myer ambassador Lauren Phillips went for full-blown glamour in a metallic Arthur Galan gown, and Jennifer Hawkins literally sparkled in inky Jayson Brundson. As soon as the stars hit the red carpet at the 55th Annual TV Week Logie Awards last night, we knew we were in for a visual treat. Knowing that Sydney-based designer Steven Khalil was working with a few leading ladies, we were pretty certain there were going to be some showstopping dresses making an appearance, and we weren't disappointed. Having trawled through all the looks, we've narrowed down the top five ensembles of the night — and yep, Mr Khalil's work makes two appearances. We had Carrie Bickmore's watermelon-hued Steven Khalil number, Jennifer Hawkins' slinky black Jayson Brundson, Samara Weaving in lacy red Steven Khalil, Jess McNamee's white Grecian gown and Laura Dundovic in fitted Manning Cartell. No host was chosen for the 2013 Logie Awards last night, and when Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, the first presenters of the night, took to the stage, they made it very clear that they were only there in a presenting capacity. After making their stage entrance on spinning red chairs with wheels, a reference to The Voice, Hamish said, “It is such an honour to not be the hosts of the evening.” He referred to Bauer Media, the new parent company of TV Week, as “overlords,” and addressed them in his best German accent. Then came the House Husbands reference — Hamish was carrying his Gold Logie from last year in a sling, and when Andy questioned him about his attachment to it he said, “Couldn’t get a sitter for Little Bert. I couldn’t just lock him in the car downstairs, you know — it’s his birthday.” There were more crackers in their opening act so watch the full performance after the break.
As we took in the slew of stylish celebs who hit the red carpet at the Logies last night, one thing became very apparent: it's all about what's happening at the back. From Carrie Bickmore and Samara Weaving in their lacy red Steven Khalil numbers, to Jesinta Campbell in her midnight blue Ferragamo sparkler, we couldn't take our eyes off the super-low dips, criss-crossed straps, sheer lace and Grecian inspired-shoulders that came down the carpet. Crown Palladium in Melbourne played host to Australia’s most popular TV stars for the 2013 Logie Awards last night. The show didn’t have an official host but Gold Logie nominees Hamish Blake and Andy Lee kicked off the proceedings by entering the stage on red mobile spinning chairs á la The Voice (a nod to the series’ season two premiere on the same night) after an energetic opening performance from Bruno Mars, the first of many international guests to perform during the show.
Over the next few hours awards were handed out in the popular (public-voted) and outstanding (peer-voted) categories, with Asher Keddie, Steve Peacocke and drama series House Husbands among the first winners. Joel Madden took home his first Logie for most popular new male talent and made fun of the fact that he’s been in the entertainment industry for a long time. Puberty Blues star Brenna Harding was overwhelmed when she won most popular new female talent and gave an emotional speech, while another touching moment was when Deborah Mailman won most outstanding actress for her role as Benita Mabo in Mabo — during her speech she brought the real Benita Mabo to the stage, and it was a double celebration as it was also Benita’s birthday. Channel Nine newsreader Brian Henderson was inducted into the Logie Awards Hall of Fame and brought his intelligence, humour and signature sign-off to the show. There was also a special tribute to Peter Harvey, who passed away last month.
Performances from Michael Bublé, Birdy and Olly Murs were scattered throughout the broadcast — some people on social media aired their disappointment at the lack of Australian performers on Aussie TV’s night of nights — before it came to the big one: the Gold Logie. Bert Newton presented the Gold Logie to a “discombobulated” (her word) Asher Keddie at the end of the night and during his time on stage he made jokes about his long career, Network Ten and even his sex life. Asher admitted, “I’m not sure what it means to me,” about winning the Gold Logie, but went on to thank fans for their support as well as the people who have helped her throughout her career.

She was one of the last to hit the red carpet at last night's Logie Awards, but we think it was worth the wait to see Laura Dundovic's style choices. Wearing a fitted coral-red Manning Cartell number, the model and Myer ambassador looked sleek and super chic — especially as she kept accessories to a minimum, with just a beaut Sergio Rossi clutch and cocktail ring accompanying her dress. The Manning Cartell fits like a glove and we love the pop of orange in the middle of the bodice. Are you a fan?

Asher Keddie has won the 2013 Gold Logie, making her the most popular personality on Australian television. This year she beat Adam Hills, Carrie Bickmore, Hamish Blake, Andy Lee and Steve Peacocke for the top prize. Asher is one of the country’s most beloved actresses thanks to her role as obstetrician Nina Proudman on Network Ten’s Offspring; this is her first Gold Logie after three consecutive nominations.
During her acceptance speech, Asher, who had already won earlier in the night for most popular actress, said, “I’m not quite sure what to say. I’m very overwhelmed and very moved . . . I’m not sure what it means to me, but I think what it really does mean is that it’s such a wonderful opportunity to say, ‘Thank you,’ to the audience who has watched me play a number of character over the years — I think this is about a body of work — and it’s my opportunity to say, ‘Thank you,’ for being so supportive even when the characters I’ve played have not always been entirely likeable.” She thanked the “wonderful, talented and brilliantly creative” people she gets to work with, and friends and mentors who have helped her throughout her whole career.
For the second year in a row, the winner of the Gold Logie was leaked even before the award had been announced in the room. The journalist who wrote The Australian story blamed it on a production error.
