Bella Review: Model Co's Super Tan Instant Self Tan

I don't know about you, but I like to look tanned all through Winter. Not too dark, but most definitely glowy. I usually use a gradual tanning cream, but this year I thought I'd step things up a notch and actually continue using a full fake tan. I'm a huge fan of Model Co's Tan Airbrush in a Can ($22), so when their new instant tanning foam, Super Tan Instant Self Tan ($39), landed on my desk, I couldn't wait to try it.

The colour intensity is deep/dark so I was a little weary about how much I applied, but I needn't have been — it's perfect! I used the brand's Blend Buffing Mit which I truly believe helps even coverage, and of course I exfoliated really well beforehand. The foam provides instant colour (with a very faint scent), and it is recommended you let the tan develop for at least two hours before showering. I was waiting to get to bed so I only left mine on for an hour-and-a-half, but I'm more than happy with the colour.

The formula includes macadamia oil and pomegranate extract so it left my skin feeling really soft. Another thing to note is the inclusion of Melatime — a tanning accelerate that helps your skin achieve a darker tan naturally, as it works on increasing the body’s Melanin levels.

I got this tan after falling in love with airbrush in a can... Never have I used a worse tan in my life. Doing everything I should do before applying this product didnt even dry on my skin. For hours I was sticky and uncomfortable. 6 hours later I finally had a shower and after I was done, I back to pastey white. Extremely unhappy. But I I keep using it maybe my skin might go just as dark as Wat melanotan does :s

Um, This tan sucks. I applied it, waited 2 hours then have a shower and the tan just washed straight off my body, hardly there at all. I want a deep dark tan and this definitely did not do that

Haha not always but my legs felt particularly dry that day! As a follow up to my first response, the tan became much more even looking once i had showered it off about 9hrs later, and it still looks good this week- 4 days later! So it has proven better than its initial appearance! x

Ok I have been using fake tan for going on 10 years now and I LOVE IT. Not only that but I am really good at applying it, so good in fact that I have a youtube tutorial dedicated to the application of cream, mousse and spray varieties of fake tan. I will also preface this review by saying I am a huge fan of the model co brand, especially their sprays- i think they work wonders and I often don't leave the house without them on. Today however, I picked up the Super Tan mousse bottle to try it for the first time and I was severely disappointed.... First of all, the 100ml Bottle is $25 at David Jones, which I was sceptical of because model co products are notoriously one of the more expensive brands of fake tan on the market. I was soon to find out why the price point was so reasonable... I went home, had a shower, exfoliated, shaved my legs, exfoliated again with a moisturising pre-fake tan designed body scrub and then towel dried my legs ready for application. I am including these steps if any doubt can be raised about my pre-fake tan routine (which is goddamn flawless thank you very much!). I then applied the fake tan- this is where it all went downhill. I spread the moose in a line down my shins to be fanned out into the rest of my leg. By the time I had made the line (about 3 seconds), the tan had already started to set into my leg and as much as i rubbed it the darker uneven first line i had drawn could not be rubbed out. This happened for the entirety of my leg, any area i covered in slightly more of the tan appeared much much darker than the rest. The consistency of the tan also leaves a lot to be desired. I love the model co spray because it gives a lovely glow to my complexion and seems to shine, which all fake tan should do in my opinion, but the Super Tan has a matte, rough look, which in combination with its impossible application, does not look good at all! I attempted to wash it off straight away but it looks like its already stuck there so we'll see how it develops over the next fews days, it could get better- but i'm not counting on it! I probably won't buy this tan again, but will certainly keep to my faithful model co spray tan brand, which is what they do best in my opinion. xx
