"I love wearing matte lipsticks, but I find that within an hour or so after applying, my lips are so dry! Should I just put more lipstick on? I don't want to lose the matte effect by using a balm." — Jess, Sydney

See Inside Our Beauty Editor's Bag: Fashion Week Essentials
Just one more sleep until Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, and I'm starting to prepare my kit. Covering the shows from a beauty perspective is very different to fashion, because I'm backstage stalking hair and makeup artists and snapping models, instead of sitting front row dissecting the fashion trends. I start to see the beauty trends take shape while the model is being transformed in the chair — usually while nibbling on an apple or reading a book (cuteness!). I'm all about comfort when it comes to fashion week, because when you're covering over 40 shows in five days, all you really want is a hair tie, lip balm and deodorant. True story. Come with me!
Karlie Kloss Rocks the Perfect Smoky Eye
For those of us needing a little help transitioning our makeup from from Spring brights to warmer hues, look no further than Karlie Kloss. The model was lounging poolside yesterday with her fellow Victoria's Secret Angels to celebrate the launch of the brand's 2013 swim collection. But instead of the string bikinis, it was Karlie's makeup that left us totally inspired. Her metallic smoky eye was the perfect juxtaposition for her dewy makeup and pink lips and cheeks, creating an ace pairing of Spring makeup transitioning to Autumn/Winter.
To get the look, start out with your metallic shadows on your lids. Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Painted Purple ($11.95) with a dusting of Bobbi Brown Metallic Cream Shadow in Candlelight ($50) in the corners of eyes is a great combo to mimic Karlie's application. Then keep your lips and cheeks very Spring with a cream blush like Prestige Mineral Blush in Peach ($22.50) to add a soft glow to the apples of your cheeks. Finish with a swipe of a pearlescent pink like Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Candy Apple ($21.95). You'll give new life to your makeup look this season.
Real Beauty: 5 Minutes With Gary Pepper Vintage
She's currently in the US following an array of pretty street-style appearances for 2013 Fall fashion week, and we're delighted to give you a peek inside the beauty wardrobe of Gary Pepper Vintage, aka Nicole Warne. She's mastered the art of the cat-eye, and her skin is so clear and smooth, we've been falling over ourselves to find out what skincare she uses. A prominent Australian blogger, Nicole recently featured in the Miss Vogue social media campaign and we may or may not have her mentally clocked under cheek bone inspiration...

So Smoky: Katie Holmes For Bobbi Brown
Well here it is, the first, exclusive look at Katie Holmes for Bobbi Brown. The Broadway actress signed on as the first celebrity face of the brand back in September, with Bobbi adding that that Katie "epitomises the modern 'Bobbi woman'". In the first of two images to be used in the campaign, Katie oozes sophistication with a modern-day smoky eye — a beauty look that showcases Bobbi Brown's soon-to-be-released (March) Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks, reports Huff Post Style. "I've always been a fan of her makeup, because it’s so easy to apply," Katie said in a statement. "Her colour palettes aren’t extreme, so when I first started wearing makeup it felt comfortable and I didn’t feel like I had too much on, which can happen."

Countdown to NYE: Smoky Eye Essentials
I’ve had a year-long love affair with bright lipstick but for 2013 I’m looking to switch beauty gears and return the focus to my eyes. As a result I’ve had to go back to basics with looks such as the smouldering and sexy black smoky eye, which I’m trying to perfect in time for New Year’s Eve. The funny thing, though, is that its appeal isn’t in its perfectness but in its slightly unkempt appearance. I’ve been practising a few smoky eyes at night with different products to see what goes the distance so I don’t look too dishevelled when the clock strikes midnight.
