It was a fun night on the People's Choice Awards red carpet in LA yesterday. Stars brought the glamour in metallics, bold colours, and bright neutrals as they made their way into the show. Miley Cyrus showed off her glowing tan in a light yellow David Koma dress on the arm of boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, who has been busy with press for The Hunger Games this week. Winner Lea Michele went with a white Marchesa, and Jennifer Morrison followed suit in an Oscar de la Renta of the same hue. The evening's host, Kaley Cuoco, posed in a metallic Badgley Mischka gown while Julianne Hough, fresh off her St. Barts vacation, wore a sequinned mini with an open back.

The evening wasn't all about neutrals though, since some ladies opted for bright colour instead. How I Met Your Mother's Alyson Hannigan covered her baby bump in a short red Alice + Olivia number. Both Busy Philipps and nominee Jennifer Lawrence chose blue, with Busy in Carven and Jennifer rocking a daring Victor & Rolf. Nina Dobrev, who picked up the award for favourite TV drama actress, stood out in green Elie Saab.

Rounding out the red carpet fashion were a few ladies who went with black. Presenter Ashley Greene stepped out in a custom lace DKNY look and Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale continued the sexy trend with a dramatic Cengiz Abazoglu outfit. Ellie Kemper was honoured as part of the cast of Bridesmaids in a simple dark dress, while Vanessa Hudgens mixed things up in a Jenny Packham halter.

Nicole Richie played host to a number of celebrity parents and their kids at a Winter Wonderland event with Baby2Baby and Huggies in LA on Saturday. Nicole didn't bring her two little ones Harlow and Sparrow to the bash, but Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman did pose with their son Skyler. The stylish 7-month-old was in all grey, which made his big blue eyes stand out. Rachel didn't break out Skyler's cute Gucci tuxedo this time, though it's going to be pretty adorable when he does get black tie formal. Rebecca Gayheart, who is pregnant with her second baby, joined husband Eric Dane and their first daughter Billie while Busy Philipps got crafty with tuxedo shirt-wearing Birdie. Cash Warren brought Honor to get her face painted while his wife Jessica Alba travelled back from Milan with their younger baby Haven.

Busy Philipps looked absolutely lovely at the People's Choice Awards nominations in a green silk shirtdress and rich mahogany knee-high boots for a look that channeled the season's '70s trend in the best way. The key piece? The right shirt dress. In this case, you want it to be a flowy material like silk or crepe de chine, with long sleeves and a fuller skirt. Kate Bosworth, in Proenza Schouler, joined boyfriend Michael Polish, Olivia Wilde, Busy Philipps and Dianna Agron at US Vogue's 2011 CFDA Fashion Fund finalist celebration at LA's Chateau Marmont late last week. Kate and Michael have been constant companions over the past few months, and in addition to their romantic trip to France he also recently accompanied her to a taping of Chelsea Lately. Olivia chose a flirty floral dress for the cocktail reception then changed into a sexy black Yigal Azrouël gown for her red carpet arrival at the LA premiere of In Time. Fresh off her win at last weekend's Scream Awards, Chloë Moretz was also on hand for the soiree as were Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss and actress Michelle Monaghan.

Alexa Chung was joined by some fashionable friends at the launch of her latest Madewell collection at the Chateau Marmont on Wednesday night. To accompany the clothes, Alexa also created a little “xine” for the label, which features some of her cute illustrations and fun cut-out masks. Among the guests celebrating her range were Kate Bosworth, Dianna Agron, Abbie Cornish, and a smiley Elle Fanning; lots of these stars were also regulars at New York Fashion Week. It’s been a busy month of style-related activities for Alexa, who was also in Sydney at the end of August as the international ambassador for ACP Magazines’ 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden were among the famous faces at a Band of Outsiders and Net-a-Porter Summer bash in LA last night. Busy Philipps and Andrew Garfield also came out to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for the event, which featured a screening of Bill Murray's Meatballs. It was Nicole's second outing of the week after she attended the launch of Charlotte Ronson Beauty at Il Sole on Tuesday. Busy was on hand during a break from the set of Cougar Town, which her co-star Courteney Cox was spotted filming with a few canine friends earlier this week. Andrew, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday, showed his support for the brand and posed with creative director Scott Sternberg while Sarah Silverman chatted with Busy and other pals.
