Cameron Diaz's Stylist Shares Her Top Tips For Blonde Hair

Do blondes have more fun? That's up for debate, but Cameron Diaz always makes it seem that way. We're loving her bright, bouncy, blonde hairstyle, so we caught up with her colourist Tracey Cunningham, Redken creative consultant for colour. She's known as one of the best in the business and if there's a hair hue heating up, you can safely assume that she's on it. If you're a blonde — or are thinking of lightening up — get some of her tips and tricks now!
How to keep your colour balanced: Blonde hair should be smooth, multi-tonal and devoid of brassiness. To avoid the dreaded yellow-orange shade that can creep into blonde hair, use a for-blondes-only shampoo and conditioner designed to add shine and correct too-warm tones. Cunningham recommends Redken Blonde Glam Shampoo and Conditioner ($27 each) to her clients like Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.
Keep rading . . .Look sun-kissed (minus the sun): To look like you've spent a weekend at a beach house, just add highlights. "This is a great way to play with your hair and brighten your look," Cunningham explains. "You can add a few highlights around your face frame to enhance your face or add a lot of highlights to really pump up your overall look."
Ombré is still going strong: If you're a low-maintenance kinda girl, consider getting ombré highlights. This technique leaves hair darker toward the roots, gradually going lighter on the bottom. "It works for literally everyone, no matter what your base colour or hair length [is]," she says. "It’ll give your colour that brightness and energy it’s been missing." Cunningham pioneered the trend on model Lily Aldridge and has since helped develop the Illumination technique used globally in Redken salons.
