George Calombaris Says "Serious" Chefs Don't Wear Lipstick

3

Beauty fans who tune in to MasterChef may have found their noses put out of joint last night when judge George Calombaris insinuated that "serious" cooks don't wear makeup in the kitchen. He made the comments in regard to Dani Venn, who joined fellow contestants Ellie Paxton-Hall and Jay Huxley in a pressure test that saw them take on a Pandan chiffon cake with palm sugar and black sesame ice cream. When Dani took her dessert up to the judging, George commented:

George: Lipstick's not on anymore.

Dani: No, I took my lipstick off. It's probably not necessary.

George: Is it serious Dani now, is that what you're telling us?

We know that George probably didn't mean to cause offense and we don't believe that chefs have to be made-up in the kitchen, but if they choose to be, they shouldn't be discriminated against. Maybe George needs reminding of Poh's awesome cream blush in series one . . . that doesn't seem to have held her back, if anything, she's one of the show's best success stories! What do you guys think, was George right to tell Dani that it's less about lipstick or not?
