I love Melissa George. She’s out there, flying the Aussie flag, looking flawless. Prime example: yesterday at the launch party for Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne (which is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere FYI) she looked like a ‘20s femme fatale with those loose waves and deep red wine lip.

It was nice to see a slighter darker take on the red lip and waves combo; going for deep burgundy meant that Melissa made the classic look her own. Follow her advice and you can rock the trend too . . .

What to Wear, What to Wear: Melissa wisely opted for a plain black dress. This is not a lip shade that copes well with patterns so bear that in mind when choosing an outfit – it’s probably best to stick to black or creamy, ivory shades.

Ace of Base: This look is all about sleek, polished charm. It looks off-kilter if teamed with a dewy finish so be sure and re-touch your powder on a regular basis and keep some blotting papers on hand. Try Napoleon Perdis Voila! Oil Control ($15).

Be Bold: This look works best with a strong brow line so add some colour to your arches with Benefit Brow Zings ($53).

Walk the Line: When wearing red (in any shape or form), always remember to line your lips first. This will prevent colour from bleeding out.

Skin Tones: Fairer skin tones can afford to be pretty daring. As Melissa shows, it works really well against porcelain skin. But those with more olive tones can also pull off this hue.
