One style really stood out for me during last night's episode of Australia's Next Top Model: Jessica’s braid and bun hybrid. LOVE. I spoke to TRESemmé Head Stylist Joh Bailey about how he created the fresh and flirty look . . .
"Jessica's beauty is really unique and I wanted to give her an ethereal, almost otherworldly look, by creating a different take on the braid. The key to this look is that it looks organic and natural and not too "done." There is a bit of trickery involved however. To get the volume required for the braid, we enlisted a hair weft (a long line of extensions sometimes clipped into the hair, but also used to thicken up ponytails). To get the look, with or without a weft:
Keep reading . . .STEP 1: Prep damp hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Amplifying Mousse ($7.95) and blow-dry straight.
STEP 2: If you are not using a weft, taking the front 1/3 to 1/2 section of hair and work into a braid across the hairline. The key here is to not pull the braid too tight, as you want to pull out the pieces to make it look thick and unlike a typical braid. Pin the end behind the ear.
STEP 3: Pull the rest of the hair back into a loose twisted bun at the crown, tucking the ends under and pinning in place. You could also try plaiting it and twisting it around itself for more impact. If you are using a weft, start with this step.
STEP 4: If you are using a weft, plait it loosely and then position over the hairline, pinning behind each ear.
STEP 5: Finish with a spritz of TRESemmé Salon Finish Extra Hold Hairspray ($7.95), leaving some bits loose and not smoothing down everything.
