It's been three months since Lancôme tapped Julia Roberts as its newest spokeswoman and now Julia's famous smile is making its debut for the beauty brand. This just-launched French television ad features Julia wearing Lancôme's forthcoming European-market mascara, Hypnôse Precious Cells. Now, you might need to dust off your français to understand every word, but what are your thoughts on Julia's oh-so-smiley first Lancôme campaign?
besides the fact that it's obviously impossible for one to get her full lashes with just mascara, this ad is lame! it's boring, unoriginal, and nothing anyone has never seen before. that being said, she was definitely a good choice - she really is such a stunning woman; her gorgeous eyes really draw me in, and her iconic smile makes me want to know more...
False lashes and out of focus - are we idiots? terrible.
Maybe the idea is that her Beauty (and LANCOME, of course) stand alone - sometimes a picture CAN be worth 1,000 words! Yea, Julia - you give us all something to aspire to - skin that glows, and a look that doesn;t scream : I'm 40 (or 50, or 60 or whatever!)
The lack of Julia-speak is probably a creative decision that also addresses a logistical issue. If she spoke in French, the commercial could be used in Francophone countries only. Without having her say anything, the film can be used in commercials all over the world. Plus, it's more mysterious... If you look at other luxury brands, they infrequently have spoken parts.
