Make Up For Ever has training academies across the globe, and now its latest opening is in your living room. The makeup brand is collaborating with online learning community Skillshare, so you can take its best cosmetics courses on your computer. Starting this month Make Up For Ever will offer classes on various topics from contouring to creating the perfect smoky eye. Even though the courses aren't face-to-face, the curriculum runs much like any other beauty school course. There will be a tutorial by a Make Up For Ever artist, final project assignments, and even office hours. These classes aren't just for professionals; any woman can sign up to improve her makeup skills. Some of the courses will even be offered for free.
Christina Ricci is promoting the new Remix Makeup Bag she created for Make Up For Ever, and divulging her best beauty advice in the process. "Don't over pluck," she says. "I thought I looked good, but I looked crazy!" The actress also told us which film set she was on when she learned to apply makeup for the first time, and even compared her weekend style to "looking like a boy." Christina Ricci is trying her hand at design in a collaboration with Make Up For Ever. The actress created a faux leather makeup bag complete with studs and tough-girl screen print for the beauty brand. "My inspiration for the bag was hard rock meets couture," Christina told WWD. "I added a red lip motif to the geometric design since I love wearing red lipstick. Plus I thought it would add a fun pop of color." The bag will be available next month as part of the nine-city Make Up Bag Remix tour. The brand wants to encourage women to explore new ways to use products they already own. And perhaps they will convince consumers to fill Christina's bag with their latest releases in the process.
At most fashion shows, it's the models who tower over everyone else. But backstage at EleVen, Venus Williams had the strongest presence in the room. The 6'1" tennis superstar was bringing back her line of sportswear and workout gear, constantly smiling and in good spirits before the presentation. Instead of using traditional models, she invited athletes to box, dance, and stretch as they showed off the collection.
"They're athletes, so it's clean," said key makeup artist Lottie of the fresh-faced look. "Some are wearing Aqua Black eyeliner tight to the lashes, but we're focusing on the skin." For a sweat-proof finish, Lottie applied Make Up For Ever HD Foundation to the face and body. Hair was similarly athletic, with John Barrett Salon hairstylist Mahogany creating individualized ponytails and braids for each athlete. And now that the cooler, crisper season is nigh, it's time to anchor those richer, deeper makeup palettes with equally impressive brows. But how do you get the look right minus the cartoony effects?
It's called eyebrow gel, and Make Up For Ever's Aqua Brow ($20) is outright amazing (although most brow-toned, cream-to-matte eye colors should do the trick).
