Lip Service: MasterChef's Dani Talks About THAT Red Lipstick

Eliminated MasterChef contestant Dani Venn counts her lipstick as a can't-live-without item, but it caused quite the controversy in the kitchen when judge George Calombaris suggested that Dani only got serious when she took it off. Pop interviewed Dani today and got Dani's side of the story:

"It’s a funny one because I really love wearing red lipstick, and I was feeling that I was getting a bit of pressure from the judges to remove it, because I don’t think they thought chefs should wear lipstick. It’s an interesting topic: should women have to de-feminise in the kitchen? At the end of the day I was copping flack for it so I couldn’t be bothered. It was OK in the end because it’s a lot easier to maintain when you’re not wearing lipstick! [Laughs]"

Do you think Dani should've been pressured into removing it? Or should it have been her choice whether she wanted to wear makeup in the kitchen?

I'm surprised they didn't ask Danielle Dixon to remove her lipstick. George or neither of the other judges didn't say anything to her about that. So, this was a bad personal attack on a amatuer cook who wore her heart on her sleeve.

This is a personal attack on Dani considering the fact that is was Masterchef, not Australia's next top model. This was a cook who put her heart on the line and her feelings out there. I admire her so much for that. I think George had a nerve for making the suggest he did. He had no right to have a chop at Dani about that. I think she looked cuter and better with it. If she is comfortable wearing it, she should go ahead and wear it.

Do you think Dani should've been pressured into removing it? Ohmygosh! Never. It just goes to show how incredibly backward Australia still is in regards to women's rights to look good and feel feminine without losing credibility. It's such a shame we actually have to fight to keep beauty in this country, I'm really sick of this actually. Or should it have been her choice whether she wanted to wear makeup in the kitchen? 100% her choice. I thought this is a FREE country, but it goes to show that we still need to work on Human Rights here.... funnily enough we now have to fight for the right to be beautiful? What the???? Seriously Australia, we are becoming one boring and ugly population in comparison to some countries I've traveled though, time to change that!!! I feel disgusted that Danni was pressured into losing the lipstick. When did beauty ever hurt anyone?! Do we REALLY want to reward women for looking less than confident about the way we want to look? Do we want to be pressured to looking plain all the time? It looks like feminism backfired royally! >^.~< xx
