Tabatha Coffey From Tabatha's Salon Makeover Talks Being a B*tch

Hairstylist and host of Tabatha's Salon Takeover Tabatha Coffey is in Australia for a series of one-night only seminars, hosted by Joico, where she'll be sharing her greatest tricks of the trade with local stylists. We were lucky enough to catch a few minutes of her time to find out if she's as fierce in real life as she is on screen and see what's next for the hit show.

You're originally from Australia — do you have any plans to do a local version of your show? I don’t have any concrete plans but I would love to do one.

What's next for Tabatha's Salon Takeover? It's been announced that I will be taking over other businesses for season four but I can't disclose what type of they will be yet. It will be a lot of fun for all of the viewers out there!

Keep reading . . .You've got the reputation for being the Gordon Ramsey of the hairdressing world. What do you say to people who call you a b*tch? I say I'm not a b*tch, I'm honest. People tended to label me and that was when I came up with the acronym: Brave, Intelligent, Tenacious, Creative and Honest. I did it to take the negativity and stigma out of it and to actually own it. So if you use all the things that I have it's not a negative word at all — it's actually a good thing to be in life and in general, especially if you are a business woman.

How do you ensure clients get the most out of their salon visit? It all starts with the consultation so I make sure I have enough time to spend with the client and determine what their hair is like and their expectations — how was their last service, were they happy with it or do they want to change it, how were the products I recommended, or current ones they are using. This way I can get a history of their hair so we can either do the same thing, change it up a little or rectify any issues.

Should clients come to the salon prepared with a photo or celeb cut in mind or leave it up to the professional? If a client has something that they want to bring and they have seen a photograph that they really love and they want to bring that then I have no problem with that at all — it's always nice to have a visual. It's up to me as the professional to ask the right questions such as what they love about the haircut and colour and then advise them to whether it will work for them.
