Tom Pecheux Shares His Mascara Tips

Considering mascara is an everyday item for most of us, it's not something that all of us have nailed. There's the danger of clumpy lashes on one end of the spectrum and spidery lashes on the other. But makeup maestro Tom Pecheux is on the case. Backstage at the Autumn/Winter 2012 shows, the Creative Director of Estée Lauder revealed his top mascara tip: "Basically, I don’t like it when lashes look like spider legs, so for many years I’ve been playing with black mascara on top lashes and brown mascara on bottom lashes." It's a quick and easy tip and created a look that "women fell in love with," Pecheux says. And so the brand set about developing Sumptuous Two Tone Eye Opening Mascara ($58), which will hit counters on June 3. Designed with two brushes — a thicker one for black mascara to be used on the upper lashes and a smaller one with brown mascara for lower lashes — the lighter colour on the lower lash line "works better because black can often 'drag the eye down' or give eyes a 'spider leg' effect."
