"The Watson X Watson girl has her own individual style, she's not just following a trend, and we wanted to reflect that in the makeup," Liz Kelsh (Max Factor) told us backstage. She started with Pat McGrath's favourite, Max Factor Second Skin Foundation for a "flawless but natural finish" and then added a gold texture to the skin with Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in Pearl Beige used as highlighter on the cheekbones. We also got a sneak peek of a new double-ended lip product coming out later in the year called the FlipStick. Kelsh used a selection of colours to give each girl a custom-blend lip but kept within the nudish-pink colour family. A few of the girls also had face art around the eye for a point of difference. Phillip Barwick (Redken) wanted models to have a "youthful vitality" to the hair. "But it also has that lovely feeling as if she's been out at an late-night rave or in the bush somewhere. It's got that look as though the morning mist has started to settle on her and it's started to bring the hair down a bit," he said. He used Redken Guts 10 pre-blow-drying, styled hair into a low side part "in line with the corner of the eye" and put a soft spiral curl below the jawline. Then he sectioned models' strands and used Guts 10 again to get the mist effect before pinning it back behind the ears and letting a bit fall in front of the face on one side to add an innocence to the look. On nails, the OPI team started with Care to Danse? from the NYC Ballet collection and used Designer Series Glow to created that dipped-in-gold effect.
