Product Review: A 10-Year-Old Fragrance Favourite
The fragrance industry sees so many new launches every season with plenty of bottles being discontinued, so celebrating the 10th anniversary of Narciso Rodriguez For Her ($125) is a big deal. As a longtime fan of this soft, sensual scent, it's easy to forget just how much this was a pioneering fragrance back in 2003. From it's black opaque bottle to the key note of musk, by description it sounds like men's cologne, but the designer himself was keen on pushing forward with all of his unconventional ideas for his first-ever women's perfume. His original vision paid off, and it has garnered quite the cult following. The blend of musks mixed with floral notes like orange blossom, osmanthus, and rose make this a warm, feminine scent that is sure to stand the test of time.
Updated: See Robert Pattinson's First Dior Ad!
Robert Pattinson has just been named the new face of Dior's fragrance for men, Dior Homme. The Twilight heartthrob isn't the first celebrity to lend his face to Christian Dior. Robert joins a celebrated list of names, including Jude Law, Alain Delon, Natalie Portman, and Charlize Theron. Campaigns have already reportedly been shot by photographer Nan Goldin and director Romain Gavras, but no release date has been confirmed yet. Unfortunately, the television campaign will run exclusively in Europe, with the exception of the UK, and Asia, excluding Japan and China.

Now Smell This: Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud + Venustus Water Perfume

As Winter closes in on us, it's time to think about buying a warming fragrance. We already know how closely memory and scent are linked, so don't underestimate the power of a new smell to take you on a sensory journey throughout the cooler months. The fragrance sections of both Myer and David Jones can be a minefield (and leave you with a headache!), so we thought we'd highlight two perfumes we're kind of obsessed with right now.
Jo Malone's Velvet Rose & Oud flew off shelves last year as a limited edition flavour in the Cologne Intense Collection, and due to its success, has now been added permanently to the coveted Jo Malone fragrance stable. A smoky wood and floral mix, this baby is not for sensitive nostrils. Spiced with clove, the experts say it's at its best when layered with like-minded notes to increase depth. Yum. Curious? Try it alongside Jo Malone's Dark Amber & Ginger Lily to smell like no one else in the room.
Another favourite right now is Sydney spa Venustus’s Altruism Water Perfume. Mixed from organic essentials oils and pure water, this perfume (and the entire Water Perfume range for that matter) is perfect for sensitive-skinned ladies. The idea here is holistic healing through smell, and Altruism is for the nurturer in all of us. An unlikely threesome, geranium, bergamot and spearmint make for quite the heartwarming combination.
Gwyneth Paltrow Fits a New Gig Into Her Packed Schedule
Gwyneth Paltrow has landed another job and, according to her, it's perfect for her busy lifestyle. Hugo Boss announced today that Gwyneth will be the face of its new Boss Jour Pour Femme fragrance. The new scent is the daytime counterpart to the brand's Nuit Pour Femme line of scents, which also features Gwyneth in its ads. She told WWD that modelling for a fragrance is the best new gig to add to her already hectic schedule. Gwyneth said, "I can only really do one film a year now because of my family and how it all works out, so it's so nice for me to be able to work for a great company and, you know, I'm going to Spain next week for two days so I still get to travel and meet really interesting people and have a work interaction. But it's not like I am out of the house for three months."
Gwyneth also revealed that she starts her day at 7am, when she wakes her kids up, drops them off at school, and then returns home to spend the rest of her day working on Goop. With her duties for Iron Man 3 wrapped up, Gwyneth is back to focusing her time and energy on her Internet newsletter. She threw a party for Goop's Summer season in London yesterday, which featured a star-studded guest list, including Kate Hudson and Tom Ford.
On the Nose: An Interview With Elisabeth de Feydeau, Professor of Perfume

We know. How romantic, right? Well, being a professor of perfume is a little more complex than that — and rightly so given Elisabeth de Feydeau's extensive experience and credentials. In town to speak at the Australian Financial Review's luxury business and fashion summit, Bespoke, Elisabeth's developed sense of smell led her to be head of cultural affairs at Chanel and Bourjois, before founding her own perfume consulting business, Arty Fragrance.
This is a woman who travels the world in the name of training prestigious names in perfumery, all the while analysing past experience and anticipating scent trends. We sat down with "Dame de la Jurade" to talk nostril strengthening, developing our olfactory memory and yes, we asked her to name her favourite fragrance. Read more, after the jump.
