Our five Australian hopefuls went home empty-handed from the Oscars yesterday — Hugh Jackman for best actor, Naomi Watts for best actress, Jacki Weaver for best supporting actress, Rick Findlater for achievement in hair and makeup design for The Hobbit, and Dave Clayton for visual effects, also for The Hobbit — but that didn't stop them from enjoying and partaking in Hollywood's night of nights. Hugh took to the stage with Russell Crowe and the rest of the Les Misérables cast to perform a medley of songs during the show's musical tribute, and Nicole Kidman also got up in front of the star-studded audience to introduce some of the best picture nominees. There were also a handful of Aussies scattered around the many parties that were thrown yesterday, including Miranda Kerr, Ryan Kwanten and Isla Fisher.

Sarah Snook on Working With Ryan Kwanten and Why She Loved Making Not Suitable For Children
![]()
Not Suitable For Children, a new Australian comedy, opens on July 19, starring Ryan Kwanten as Jonah, a party-loving twenty-something who discovers he has testicular cancer and only weeks to have kids before his surgery. He turns to his friend and housemate Stevie, played by rising talent Sarah Snook, who goes along with his plan to find someone to have babies with — until she becomes part of the plan. We caught up with Sarah last week to chat about working with Ryan, filming interesting scenes with kids, and how she feels about being called Australia’s answer to Emma Stone.
What attracted you to the role of Stevie?
When I first read the script I was just really excited that this kind of film could be made in Australia, and be made really well. Knowing that I’d be working with Peter [Templeman], who’s an Oscar-nominated director for his short The Saviour, I was pretty excited. As for Stevie, as a character she’s a badass chick [laughs]. She can hold her own and she’s got her own thing going on. She’s one of the boys, a tomboy a bit, but she’s still a woman and doing her thing. That’s what I really liked.
Did you bring any of yourself to the character?
Yeah. In the end I couldn’t avoid doing that, in a way, because they began to make Stevie a little more like myself, in a way to make it more natural. But I’m still Sarah and she’s still Stevie.
More from Sarah when you keep reading.

See All the Stars at the White House Correspondents' Dinner!
The White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC on Saturday night was a star-studded affair. Famous faces from the big and small screens, music world, and more came out for the glamorous annual event, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. President Barack Obama also gave a funny speech, which Martha Stewart apparently appreciated since she tweeted, "A+ to Jimmy Kimmel and President Obama — great speeches, funny, smart and just disrespectful enough."
Chace Crawford joined his sister Candice and her husband Tony Romo for the evening out while Elizabeth Banks hung out with Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Rashida Jones. Sofia Vergara snapped pictures of George Clooney and President Barack Obama inside during dinner, and Kim Kardashian met up with Martha. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend paired up for the big event, but didn't make it to the after party since Chrissy had to be up early for a morning flight. Ivanka Trump arrived on the arm of husband Jared Kushner, while Dylan Lauren and Lauren Bush Lauren posed together on their way into dinner. Rachel Zoe wore an embroidered Valentino dress for the occasion and took time away from Rodger Berman to chat with Georgina Chapman, Kerry Washington, and others. Also on hand were Ryan Kwanten, Mary J. Blige, Julie Bowen and more — click through to see them all!
