New York fashion week is here! Leading up to the big day, many designers are busy testing their Fall 2013 runway beauty looks. BCBG Max Azria let us take a peek at their beauty test, where cool girl Kate Moss served as inspiration. For the runway, models were adorned in beanies with lightly glazed terracotta lips and a soft smoky eye, creating a natural, subtle look. Bumble and Bumble's Laurent Philippon describes the hair as being made to look as if "she had been travelling." One key to getting a smoky eye at home without too much effort? "Use a pencil," says makeup artist Val Garland.
2013 Fall NYFW: Middle Eastern Beauty and Grunge Mash Up at BCBG Max Azria
The effortless hair and makeup at BCBG Max Azria's Fall 2013 New York fashion week show was a casual-cool look any girl can pull off. The whole collection was inspired by Istanbul, which translated to a sexy mix of downtown cool with a little Middle Eastern influence for both the hair, by Bumble and Bumble's Laurent Philippon, and makeup, by Val Garland for Sephora Pro.
The look: Bronzed skin, smoky eyes, and side-swept hair topped with a hat.
The inspiration: Grunge meets Istanbul.
The colour scheme: Browns and neutral tones.

Emerald City: Preview the 2013 Sephora and Pantone Collaboration
If you're stumped on all the different ways to wear emerald in 2013, get your inspiration from the real deal, the Sephora + Pantone makeup collection. Last year's Colour of the Year collaboration was all tangerine, but this year's collection proves you really can wear green with plenty of options from nail polish and shadow to lashes and brushes. For those of you visiting the US after March — can we put an order in?
Pantone Goes For the Green With Its 2013 Colour of the Year
Tell your tangerine (2012's Pantone colour of the year) to tango right out the door, because the colour experts at Pantone have just named emerald the 2013 colour of the year. Described as lively, radiant, and lush, the colour was seen on the runways of Stella McCartney, Christian Dior, Marimekko, and Kenzo.
"Symbolically, emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal, and rejuvenation, which is so important in today's complex world," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said. "This powerful and appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors."
Emerald is such a versatile colour because it's a new kind of neutral. It works well in both warm and cool temperatures, and pops on a variety of different skin tones and eye colours. Wear it with peach, rose, or aubergine for a complementary effect, or swipe on your nails when you need a colour boost, but don't want something too overpowering.
In addition, just as Sephora and Pantone linked up for 2012 with its Sephora + Pantone color collection, the beauty brands will be at it again for 2013; for those lucky enough to be visiting the US, look for the launch of the line exclusively at Sephora this March.

Marc Jacobs and Sephora Plan a Makeup Line

Marc Jacobs has been a busy man. One of fashion's most influential designers recently unveiled his new perfume Dot, which will launch this August. And already he is looking to his next venture: colour cosmetics. Even though the project is in its very early stages, Marc is optimistic about his foray into makeup. “I see makeup, fragrance — everything, really — as an opportunity," he explained to WWD. "The idea of choosing a colour for your lip, or an eyeliner — it's just such a delight. Anything that is part of the joy, the ritual, of getting dressed — that's what fashion's about for me." The line will be a collaboration with Sephora, and there is no launch date set just yet. "We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they'll say, what makes them distinctive," he said. Whatever Marc decides his makeup line will "say," we hope it features the red lipstick models wore on his Fall 2012 runway. You too?

Sephora Employees Are About to Get a Designer Makeover

Sephora's still yet to hit our shores, but any beauty afficiando knows it's the first OS pit-stop so we're always keen to know what's going on with them. It's been about 10 years since Sephora employees got uniform makeovers and now they're taking it up a few notches, as Prabal Gurung is creating new uniforms for the beauty retail giant. "My intention was to reflect the style and playfulness of shopping in a Sephora store, but to also make sure they would be functional in such a fast-paced environment," Gurung explained to WWD. Starting in April (in Sephora's North America locations only), female beauty advisers decked out in fitted black suits with red detailing or black shift dresses highlighted with red trim. Male employees will don black shirts and pants, along with black jumpers with red accents. "The dress incorporates one of my favourite design elements, offering a flash of vibrant red, while the women's pant suit and the separates for men give a sleeker, more tailored look," Gurung explained. So now you'll another good reason to visit Sephora on your next trip: to check out the haute new ensembles.
