With their flawless makeup and perfectly set hairstyles, the ladies of Mad Men never fail to impress (even though everything might not be quite as pristine in their personal lives). Drama aside, each week, fans of the show delight in glimpsing back into the lives of '60s-era movers and shakers. And just as costume designers help bring a script alive by outfitting stars with fashions to suit their characters' personalities and circumstances, hairstylists and makeup artists are tasked with creating specific looks to reflect a mood.

Season six of Mad Men premieres here in Australia on Monday on Showcase (fast-tracked from the US!), so to celebrate, we're taking a look back at the fabulous bouffants and magnificent makeup of the mid-century beauties on the series. From Peggy's big chop to Joan's signature updos, see the style evolutions of the ladies of Mad Men.

Trend Alert: Swingin' '60s Hair

Last week we saw a lot of stars wearing old-school finger waves, but this week, the trend seems to be retro in a whole other era: the 1960s. Eva Longoria went for the ultimate in Mad Men-esque sophistication, styling just the front, middle portion of her hair back and away from her face. Flipped-out ends gave it all a Jackie O quality. But where Eva's strands were coiffed in the tamest of ways, Zooey Deschanel opted instead for heaps of curls and volume all over, particularly at the crown. And Jessica Alba played it sweet, parting her hair down the middle, pulling it back at the sides. Love the look? It's all about large-barreled rollers and hairspray!

2010 MTV Video Music Awards: Emma Stone

Emma Stone is the name on everyone's lips right now. The Easy A star has been earning rave reviews for her performance alongside Penn Badgley which makes her officially on our radar. I love the '60s vibe to her blow-dry and the olive green shadow is to die for. I've got a similar shade from MAC called Juxt ($32) but if you're looking for something slightly bolder, give the new Antique Green Pigment ($39) a whirl. It's part of the gorgeous Fabulous Felines collection. Paired with a pink-each lip, it's pure perfection. Do you love it too?

Hair How-To: Sophie Ellis Bextor's Beehive in 5 Simple Steps

Sophie Ellis Bextor wore this gorgeous '60s beehive-style to the opening of Jacques pop-up boutique in London yesterday. It's less slick that the Prada style but a tiny bit more polished than the teased Vogue Italia version and is rather perfect for afternoon tea with the girls. Here, Brad Ngata tells you how to get the look . . .

STEP 1: This beehive-esque look is all about having the right texture to keep the hairstyle current. Use a mousse on washed hair and then blast dry-flip your head over and blast dry again to ensure extra volume that will be long-lasting.

STEP 2: Next, set hair in hot rollers or use a large barrel curling iron. Do NOT brush through the curls.

STEP 3: Separate your hair between your forehead and crown and clip it to the side-this section will be styled last.

Abbey Lee Brings Back the Beehive For Numéro Homme # 19

The gorgeous Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen, Heidi Mount have been captured by Karl Lagerfeld alongside Baptiste Giabiconi for a spread entitled "Prédateurs" in issue # 19 of Numéro Homme. While the focus should really be on Giabiconi and the wash of carbon on his lids, it's hard not to be drawn in by the girls' big, stylised hair. Abbey's in particular. The '60s style - all softly curled fringe, high volume hair, held in place by heaps of hairspray - worn with an elongated cat eye works so well on the Aussie model. But then why am I surprised. Whenever Abbey and Karl come together, there is magic in the air. LOVE. You too?
