Chanel's Shiny Makeup Look & French Manicure at Paris Fashion Week

Karl Lagerfeld's show is one of the most highly anticipated at Paris fashion week, and this year he gave Chanel Makeup's creative director, Peter Philips, the words "shine, focus on eyes and silver" as inspiration for the beauty look. He created an exclusive platinum eyeshadow shade called Platine Précieux, that looked enchanting and beautifully light-reflecting. The lips also had a shine using a combination of Rouge Allure Gracile and Lèvres Scintillantes Plaisir. The cheeks had no blush and the skin was luminous thanks to Chanel's Vitalumiere foundation.

The nail look at Chanel Spring 2013 was quite a standout, with models donning French manicures. It's a classic look that took a back seat to nail art and bright hues long ago, so it will be very interesting to see if a trend forms off the back of the show. We already know nude nails and minimalistic makeup are the trends du jour - so French manicures certainly fit nicely into the mute colour story.

It seems as though Miuccia Prada took a little inspiration from Mad Men for Miu Miu's Spring 2013 collection then took swing coats, pencil skirts, and bralette tops with it into undeniably modern times. Denim, vinyl, and duchess satin rendered the elegant silhouettes a touch edgy, a vibe highlighted by the upswept glasses and high-cut bangs. But the real stand-outs were the killer accessories: mink stoles, crushed leather handbags, rhinestone and leather necklaces, and of course knife-sharp pointy-toe shoes. Watch to enjoy it all!

After the paparazzi calmed down from Jennifer Lopez's hot-pink front-row appearance at Valentino's Spring '13 show, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were ready to start the show. While we come to expect nothing less than feminine, ladylike looks from the brand, the designing duo injected a dose of modernity into the collection, as models walked out in see-through plastic trenchcoats and leather dresses. Chiuri and Piccioli's take on sheer was done in the most beautiful manner: blouses and skirts were layered over lace slips, while gorgeous gowns showcased impeccable floral beading on diaphanous layers. The story continued with stunning white guipure lace dresses and skirt, effortlessly elegant slipdresses, and, of course, the red-carpet-worthy gowns. This time, Chiuri and Piccioli created an exciting array of lace gowns featuring whimsical contrasting collars and beaded embroidery. Feminine, flattering, and breathtaking - we're already counting down the days until Anne Hathaway wears yet another one of these magical creations.
