The nominations for the 2014 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards have been announced, with The Great Gatsby scoring 14 nods in the film categories — including potential honours for international stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan — closely followed by The Rocket with 12 nominations. In the TV categories, Top of the Lake leads with 10 nominations, while Mrs Biggs, Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story and Redfern Now all received eight each.
The 2014 AACTA Awards will be held on Jan. 30 at The Star in Sydney, but there will also be an industry lunch held on Jan. 28 before the big ceremony. You can find the full list of film and TV nominations after the jump.
The stars in this Top 10 best-dressed list had a certain spring in their step this week — or at least, in their clothing! We saw lots of pretty pastel pieces in romantic florals (take a bow, Rose Byrne), a couple of style-setters wearing crisp all-white, a seriously cool pair of printed black-and-white pants, and so much more. Lara Bingle was a breath of fresh air in her coral Christopher Kane dress and black pumps — we love how she kept things simple and let the dress do all the necessary talking. Celebrities had their work cut out for them this week, that's for sure! Between hitting the SAG Awards on Monday (not to the mention all the pre-SAG parties!) and the AACTA Awards on Wednesday, they were up to their ears in red carpet events and glam nights out. There were multiple premieres happening around the same time across the globe, including ones for Australian Teresa Palmer's new film, Warm Bodies, and Diane Kruger's new German film. But it wasn't all glitz and glam! Some of the most beautiful pics we saw this week were of happy families reuniting — Keith Urban sure looked glad to have his girls back as they arrived home in Sydney. . . There's plenty more to see, so click through to catch up on the week's happenings!
Two major events (and a couple of smaller ones) made sure all of our favourite celebrities were on high rotation this week. At Monday's SAG Awards in LA, a bevy of Hollywood glamours stepped it up as they hurtle towards the end of the awards season. Marion Cotillard's sleek bob was perfectly coifed, as ever, and Rose Byrne knocked our socks off with a neon-meets-pastel pink lip. The night before, Jessica Alba stepped out with newly lightened locks (half of them, anyway) and a pop of candy pink on her lips. Meanwhile, here in Australia, our top actors and the like attended the AACTA Awards — but it was the hair and makeup on the red carpet that really stole the show. There's a lot to see this week, so start clicking through now!

This week in the world of social media, we caught up with our favourite snap-happy stars during their moments of work and play. Isabelle Cornish and her friend and co-star Charlotte Best shared a laugh as they took selfies ahead of the AACTA Awards on Wednesday night. Ricki-Lee Coulter hit Japan for a promotional tour and spent some time signing autographs for fans, while Reece Mastin treated his "lil' rocker" fans to an up-close-and-personal shot of his face. Models Miranda Kerr and Chrissy Teigen both hit the beach this week and shared photos of themselves in sexy bikinis, and cute friends Phoebe Tonkin and Teresa Palmer looked closer than ever at Teresa's movie premiere.
It's been a big week here in Sydney, with lots of red carpet events and celebrity sightings to fill up our time. PopSugar editor Jess was up to her ears in Aussie stars (and a couple international) when she hit both the AACTA Awards and the Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters premiere in Sydney. We spied so many gorgeous dresses on people like Cate Blanchett and Jessica Mauboy, and we were loving Megan Gale's dark, voluminous waves when she stepped onto the carpet. Ali went to fashion showings and received a very cool, very Chanel gift, while Alison's been trying out some new nail polish colours and perfecting her travel beauty kit. There's plenty more behind-the-scenes action to see — click through to check it out!
The 2013 AACTA Awards took place on Wednesday to celebrate the achievements of the Australian film and TV industry, and we were on the red carpet at The Star to speak to the talented actors as they made their way into the ceremony. We asked lots of people what their favourite movies and shows from the past year were — no surprises that big winners The Sapphires and Puberty Blues got a lot of love — and tried to squeeze any scoop on the second season of Puberty Blues out of its cast. Click through to see what everyone had to say!
The red carpet was rolled out in front of The Star in Sydney for the second annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards last night. The festivities kicked off in the afternoon as the country’s brightest film and TV stars posed for photos and chatted to media on their way into the ceremony. Most of the buzz surrounded The Sapphires, which many actors said they loved — the film, which was up for the most honours, ended up winning 11 of the 12 awards it was nominated for. It was also a successful year for home-grown TV, with plenty of celebrities sharing their love for Puberty Blues.
As for the talent, it was a mix of high-profile Aussies and locally-loved stars who added to the glamour of the event. Cate Blanchett was a vision in red sequinned Armani while Nicole Kidman, who was lovingly greeted at the airport that morning by husband Keith Urban, opted for strapless Erdem. The young stars of Puberty Blues — Brenna Harding, Ashleigh Cummings, Isabelle Cornish, Charlotte Best and Sean Keenan — were out in force and hung out with their onscreen parents, Dan Wylie, Jeremy Lindsay-Taylor and Susie Porter. Visiting Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton brought some international star power to the proceedings, and The Sapphires’ Jessica Mauboy, Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens and director Wayne Blair made their entrance together. Rounding out the arrivals was Joel Edgerton, who escorted his reported fiancée Alexis Blake on the way in.
