How-To: Issa's Hair-Raising LFW A/W 2010 Style

So there's a man called Barney Martin who you may or may not have had the pleasure of meeting/hearing about.

So there's a man called Barney Martin who you may or may not have had the pleasure of meeting/hearing about. He has a little hair salon tucked away in Surry Hills and is Pantene's Expert Stylist because he's rather handy with a hairdryer (and all the other tools that mega famous hairstylists use). He's back in his homeland at the mo, creating hairstyles with Sam McKnight and the like (a bit of rhyming never goes amiss on a Thursday afternoon) for LFW.

On Tuesday, he worked with international stylist Malcolm Edwards to create the jaw-dropping Issa style that used more product that he had ever seen. Translation: product volumes that are beyond the realms of our imagination. Try it. Z'here . . .

STEP 1: Blow-dry hair upside down using lots of mousse to push the roots up. (Try Pantene Sheer Volume Body Builder Mousse, $6.99 or Frédéric Fekkai Coiff Strong Hold Volume Mousse, $46.)

STEP 2: Next, section from the recession of the hairline (about eye level) to the crown; then take this triangle of hair and pin it out of the way.

Love It or Hate It: Trinny Wigs Out at Temperley London

Oh to have been in London on Tuesday night.

Oh to have been in London on Tuesday night. Alice Temperley and Disney joined forces for an Alice in Wonderland themed party Sigh. And while dress up wasn't mandatory, Trinny Woodall (of Trinny & Susannah fame) channelled her inner Cheshire Cat and went for a red wig. I like the fiery, Karen Elson hue on her, don't you? BTW how are you with wigs? Personally they make my head hot and itchy so I steer well clear but everyone seems to be wearing them at the moment so I'm wondering whether I should revisit . . .

Psst, speaking of Alice in Wonderland, have any of you tried the new OPI collection?

Trend Alert: Pouff, Volume and Grandeur at LFW

Forget the FRIZZ-EASE® girls, fuzzed-up is the hottest way to wear your hair in A/W '10 according to the London catwalks.

Forget the FRIZZ-EASE® girls, fuzzed-up is the hottest way to wear your hair in A/W '10 according to the London catwalks. Topshop Unique fell in love with the idea of "savage woodland brownies," (as you do) creating giant frizzy manes for its models using a combination of tonging and backcombing. Then there was Vivienne Westwood, who along with hairstylist Peter Gray, created hair that resembled fairy floss to match the dramatic collection. Paul Costelloe, meanwhile, sent exaggerated Edwardian up 'dos down the catwalks, which can only mean one thing—backcombing is back! It's a-time to get teasing . . .

Which Look Do You Prefer on Kristen Stewart?

Three days. Three looks. 'Tis a tough gig being Bella Swan.

Three days. Three looks. 'Tis a tough gig being Bella Swan. This is-she-shy-is-she-stroppy star always looks like she has a hard time on the red carpet, never knowing what to do with her hands, never looking comfortable in a dress and all made up. Sometimes, I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of her look (she seems to favour heavy eyeshadow and ill-parting hair, neither of which are really my style) but at the A/W 2010 Burberry Prorsum show yesterday I thought she looked good: all moody, muted metallics. I preferred it to her ELLE Style Awards aqua-green eye or her BAFTAs get-up. How about you, which look did you like the best?

You know the deal by now: to accompany our amazing 2010 A/W Fashion Week coverage, we're giving you the chance to win various fine fragrances each and every day.

Now, given that it's all about London right now, we thought, what's more quintessentially British than Burberry? Nothing. (Well tea, but that's not very exciting.) So, everyday through Wednesday, 24 February, we're giving away one Burberry Sport for Women 75ml (valued at $118).

Christopher Bailey has said that he wants the scent to "evoke memories of being by the sea," and the outdoorsy fragrance certainly does with notes of mandarin, ginger, sea salt, magnolia, honeysuckle, petit grain, musk and cedarwood. So, to be in with the chance of winning, all you have to do today is share with us in the comments section whether you like fragrances that come in male and female variants or do you like to have the scent and its name all to yourself?

2010 A/W London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

Mention the name Christopher Bailey and a whole gaggle of A-list girls seem to come-a-runnin'.

Mention the name Christopher Bailey and a whole gaggle of A-list girls seem to come-a-runnin'. That was the moral of the story yesterday when, wait for it, Claire Danes, Kate Hudson, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kristen Stewart, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Palermo and Twiggy showed up front row at A/W '10 Burberry Prorsum. Is it wrong to enjoy the front row more than the runway? Not that I didn't like the elegant and effortless hair which is easy to recreate with the help of a trusty low chignon, let it loose just before you walk out the front door and voila: naturally glamorous tousle. Mr. B also has his butt firmly on the good skin bandwagon. It's set to be the focal point of your A/W look so try (my fave) Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation ($98) or invest in Bobbi Brown's new Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF15 ($75) come April.

2010 A/W London Fashion Week: Christopher Kane

Who knew that cowlicks would one day become desirable, nay, trendy?

Who knew that cowlicks would one day become desirable, nay, trendy? Not me, that's for sure. I developed one when I had blunt bangs cut in after watching The Devil Wears Prada and it was a painful. I was ready to shave my head. But clearly Christopher Kane thinks otherwise, as, together with hairstylist Paul Hanlon, the "exaggerated cowlick" walked the runway in London. WWD reports that Hanlon used TIGI Catwalk Volume Collection Your Highness Root Boost Spray ($29.95) to create the look, while again "no makeup makeup" was the order of the day, with a hint of bronzed-apricot on the cheek providing the only (albeit ultra subtle) burst of colour. Can you see yourself purposely styling in a cowlick? I'm not so sure . . .

2010 A/W London Fashion Week: Nicole Farhi

It's hard to please everyone at Fashion Week.

It's hard to please everyone at Fashion Week. You've got to match the makeup to the clothes, make sure that there's something wearable about the whole look (for RTW at least), yet try to make it all look runway-worthy. 'Tis not an easy task, but I think Nicole Farhi might just have done it. The beautifully tousled low ponytail (created by Sam McKnight using Pantene), along with the simple, golden eye makeup, together create the perfect Sunday-afternoon-drinks-with-the-girls look, no? Team with a floral frock, and you're good to go pretty lady . . .

It's lucky that we conceded to liking the two-tone lip that Nanette Lepore displayed at NYFW because Dame Viv has gone and done it, too.

It's lucky that we conceded to liking the two-tone lip that Nanette Lepore displayed at NYFW because Dame Viv has gone and done it, too. While the rest of the face stuck to the "no makeup makeup" rule (save for the muddied out ears and hairline), the top lip was coated with a matte mink shade, while the bottom lip was paled out completely, which is easy to do, simply extend your foundation over your lip. For the mink shade, try MAC Lipstick in Icon ($35); despite its frosted finish, it's a close match, colour-wise. The hair was basically a big backcombed bird's nest, so if you take anything away with you from this show, let it be the lip colour which you can wear on both lips, if you don't want to brave the two-tone, remember.
