Glamorous Ladies and Hot Men Light Up the GQ Men of the Year Awards

Last night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards attracted some of Australia’s brightest stars to the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney.

Last night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards attracted some of Australia’s brightest stars to the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney. Veterans and newcomers of the entertainment industry gathered for the black tie gala to celebrate men — and one woman! — in different fields, with the highest honour, Man of the Year, going to Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth. Chris, who also fronts GQ’s December issue (on sale now), wasn’t able to pick up his award, but expressed his gratitude via video, saying, “GQ has been so supportive of me right from the beginning of my career and it’s an honour and a privilege to be acknowledged within their pages.”

Rising star Bella Heathcote was named Woman of the Year, and Callan McAuliffe, at age 17, is the magazine’s youngest winner, taking home Breakthrough of the Year. Other winners included Guy Sebastian for Solo Artist of the Year, Matt Moran for Chef of the Year, and Sam Sparro for Man of Style. The guest list was filled with actors such as Phoebe Tonkin, Jodi Gordon, Samara Weaving, Todd Lasance and Asher Keddie, models Jessica Gomes and Samantha Harris, as well as TV personalities Ruby Rose and Molly Meldrum, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong.

Nail the Look: Jodi Gordon's Aqua Frock at GQ

We saw more than one stand-out beauty look at the GQ Men of the Year Awards last night, but new bride Jodi Gordon looked particularly amazing in aqua.

We saw more than one stand-out beauty look at the GQ Men of the Year Awards last night, but new bride Jodi Gordon looked particularly amazing in aqua. We'll be dreaming about her beachy waves for weeks to come, but it was her deep bronze tan against the crisp blue of her frock that really brought her look together. We love pairing out favourite aqua and turquoise nail polish with self tan — it's a dream combo and you'll get comments, lots of them.

All the Frock Action from the GQ Men of the Year Awards

Whilst the GQ Men of the Year Awards are usually focused on the gentlemen, we have to admit we're slightly more interested in what the ladies wore to last night's chic soirée at the Opera House in Sydney.

Whilst the GQ Men of the Year Awards are usually focused on the gentlemen, we have to admit we're slightly more interested in what the ladies wore to last night's chic soirée at the Opera House in Sydney. By the looks of the red carpet, stars stuck to an elegant dress code, donning ladylike frocks — like the Alex Perry worn by Sharni Vinson, the sexy-but-still-chic Dolce & Gabbana number worn by Megan Gale and Rachael Taylor's flawless Dion Lee LBD. The guys looked good too — with the Edgerton brothers, Kellun Lutz and Nick Smith (both suave in Burberry) and Jodhi Meares' better half Alex O'Loughlin opting for smart cocktail suits on the red rug. Johnny Depp made a special appearance at London's Royal Opera House on Tuesday night to honour his friend Keith Richards. Keith was being feted by GQ at its Men of the Year Awards with the Writer of the Year statue, thanks to the runaway success of his memoir Life. Johnny took the stage to salute his good friend, but first said he'd been hidden to keep his cameo a surprise. Johnny commented, "They kept me downstairs in the basement — they locked me up!" Keith made a speech, revealing Life's being made into a movie. Bradley Cooper, who wore Tom Ford to collect his International Man honours, cosied up to Charlize Theron. Rosario Dawson wore a long dress from Tommy Hilfiger to speak, while Emma Watson, in McQ, paid homage to her Lancôme collaborator Mario Testino. Photographer Mario received accolades as the Inspirer of the Year.

Who Looked Most Fab: Alexa, Leighton or Lara?

Seems menswear is taking over the red carpet!

Seems menswear is taking over the red carpet! Suit up ladies. Pretty, but predictable dresses are being looked over by the more fashion-forward celebs, who are picking sharp menswear inspired suits instead. Always in black and worn with a white shirt and heels, we think this is a refreshing take on red carpet dressing. Alexa Chung wore this 3.1 Phillip Lim luxe tux look to the MET Costume Insitute Gala in May, then yesterday Leighton Meester popped up at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in this Thom Browne two piece, and last night our own Lara Bingle turned up at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in a distinctly masculine Dion Lee ensemble. We love that these girls aren't afraid to try out menswear inspired looks, and it's certainly a chic alternative to the fancy frock routine. Who do you think rocked this man-ish trend best? Alexa, Leights or Lara?
