Alicia Keys. Lorde. Flume. It was the 2013 ARIA Awards that gathered these music greats (and many more) in the same room last night. Before the official proceedings kicked off at the Events Centre at The Star, the biggest names in Australian music showed off their style on the black carpet, and then Birds of Tokyo got the show started with a performance of their hit “Lanterns.” 22-year-old Harley Streten aka Flume took home his first award of the night for Best Breakthrough Release; he would go on to also win Best Dance Release and Best Male Artist, and the humble producer noted that he was the first non-singing musician to win the latter award. Shortly after, a surprised Guy Sebastian was awarded his first ever ARIA for Best Pop Release, which he said he had waited a long time for.
Throughout the night, DJs such as Alison Wonderland, The Stafford Brothers and The Faders kept guests entertained with sets in between presenters and performers. The most hyped performers of the night were international guest Alicia Keys and 17-year-old Kiwi sensation Ella Yellich O’Connor aka Lorde, who treated the crowd to “Team” in her first televised Australian performance, but the stage also lit up with performances by Bliss n Eso, Vance Joy, Flume, and two of the night’s other big winners, Tame Impala and Jessica Mauboy.
Alicia Keys returned to the stage towards the end of the night to present the Best Female Artist ARIA to Jessica Mauboy, who was thrilled to receive her award from the Grammy winner, and even sang a bit of a tribute to her. Jessica said her win was about “creating pathways,” not only for other indigenous Australian musicians but for everyone. The show wrapped up with the announcement that Tame Impala’s Lonerism had won Album of the Year, and the boys thanked their friends and girlfriends for loving them and sticking around, even though they were away for most of the year.

Sure, male celebrities can be hilarious — but this week we couldn't stop laughing out loud at some of the tweets sent out by female celebrities. From Chrissy Teigen's no-holds-barred observation of January Jones, to Olivia Wilde's funny and sweet pregnancy confirmation and Megan Washington's mini meltdown, there was no end to the entertainment we garnered from the women in this gallery. Australian rapper Iggy Azalea made us cringe with her Twitter tale, singer Pink defended her sweet little family, Jesinta Campbell got back to work after a day at the races yesterday. . . And there's so much more! Click through now to read this week's best celebrity tweets.
It was all about adorable celebrity babies on Instagram this week — and if stars weren't posting about their offspring, it was all things Halloween! Miranda Kerr and her little boy Flynn looked too cute all dressed up for a night of trick-or-treating, while Guy Sebastian's little one stole our hearts with an adorable appearance on the singer's Instagram feed. Besties Delta Goodrem and Renee Bargh looked stunning in their Halloween costumes, Ricki-Lee Coulter was "with the band" and Laura Dundovic showed her support for her favourite soccer team.
Celebrities make entertaining us their business, so it's no surprise that their Twitter feeds are one of the most hilarious sources of information on the internet. From Anna Kendrick letting us know she doesn't mind a bit of Tim Gunn, to funnyman Rainn Wilson trying out his pick-up lines and Lena Dunham making like Mia Farrow, there's no end to the interesting information you can glean from this gallery. Who's Guy Sebastian lending his support to? What's Sophie Monk spruiking? It's all in here — and so much more — when you click through!
Thousands of kids and celebrities descended upon Homebsuh in Sydney last night, to attend the second annual Nickelodeon Slimefest. The Biggest Loser's Commando joined Reece Mastin and Rhiannon Fish in getting covered in buckets of the TV company's famous green slime — though the latter two were somewhat safe with the protection of the sumo suits they were wrestling in. Samantha Jade, Heffron Drive and Justice crew were just a few of the performers to hit the stage at the sold-out event, and American Nickelodeon stars Big Time Rush were warmly welcomed to the country by their young Aussie fans.
Guy Sebastian added a feel-good vibe to the event with the debut performance of his new song, "Dare to Be Square". Aimed at making kids realise it's okay to be different, the tune will be released on October 1, with all iTunes proceeds going towards the Kid's Helpline charity. There’s not long to go until Rachael Finch gives birth to her first child, and when she does, she’ll know exactly what to dress the little one in: a customised Nova FM onesie gifted to her by radio duo Fitzy and Wippa. Rachael’s not the only one who got presents this week, as birthday girl Samantha Armytage couldn’t get enough of her Kath and Kim-themed gifts. Guy Sebastian caught up with Delta Goodrem and Renee Bargh in LA, where they enjoyed nights out and beach days, and a few stars scored love from their pets, including Lincoln Lewis and Rhiannon Fish.
Aussie celebrities who make us go weak at the knees make our hearts melt even more when they’re spotted cuddling, cradling or hugging their kids. Example: we thought Chris Hemsworth couldn’t get any hotter when he hit the big time with Thor and The Avengers, but as his star rose he also became a first-time father, and the affection he shows his one-year-old daughter India is almost too cute to handle. Similarly, Simon Baker makes us swoon on The Mentalist, but it was adorable seeing him surrounded by his wife and three kids when he earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this year. Australian subscription TV was celebrated last night at the 2013 ASTRA Awards. The Sydney Theatre in Walsh Bay played host to the glamorous event, which drew the likes of Jennifer Hawkins, Alex Perry-clad Megan Gale, Charlotte Dawson, Guy and Jules Sebastian, and visiting True Blood star Joe Manganiello, who was brought out as a special guest of Foxtel. He first came to Australia in 2005 and was excited to be back with his girlfriend Bridget Peters, saying in an interview earlier in the day, “I love it. I’m excited to get to stay a few days to have a vacation.”
Plenty of awards were handed out last night, with the results proving that renovation shows are still resonating with Australian audiences — Selling Houses Australia won favourite Australian program, with its stars Shaynna Blaze and Andrew Winter picking up favourite female and male personality. Popular Game of Thrones got a mention by winning favourite international drama, while Tangle was a hit for Australian drama, with acting wins for Catherine McClements and Lincoln Younes, and an overall win for most outstanding drama. “Mr Movies” Bill Collins was honoured with the inaugural ASTRA Lifetime Achievement Award, and Fox Footy celebrated a successful year with the channel of the year award.
