Gwyneth Paltrow is celebrating her 41st birthday today, so to celebrate we thought we'd check out her beauty files. It was 'round about April 2008 that the A-lister chopped off her hair, got her sexy back and set the worldwide trend for lobs. Before then she'd played it kind of safe with her long locks. Perhaps she was still trying to recover from the matching his 'n' hers Brad Pitt crop — remember that?! But now there's no stopping the actress, blogger and Estée Lauder spokeswoman. She consistently wows on the red carpet, time and time again. But, today marks another special occasion for the blonde beauty, it's Goop's 5th anniversary! So, Happy birthday, Gwyneth! We hope you have a fabulous day.
There's something timeless about an all-white look for Summer, which is why we've reached into the archives to pull out this gem for today's Icon Kit. It makes your (faux) tan glow, your pearly whites pop, and gives the impression that you've just stepped off a yacht somewhere in the Mediterranean (stay with us here). Gwyneth Paltrow knows the power of a show-white sheath, knocking the socks of every paparazzi and his SLR with that caped creation by Tom Ford at this year's Oscars. Whilst you may not have a red rug to trot down anytime soon, we think GP's iconic look would make a brilliant start-point for the Spring-season's social calendar; weddings, Christmas parties ... heck! Any time you need to frock up. It's as easy as A plus B. . .
What a pretty week we've had in beauty land! A whole bunch of our favourite stars hit the town with new makeup looks and hairstyles to try, and we can't wait to give them a go. From statement lips (Emma Stone and Jesinta Campbell at the Topshop Sydney launch) to gorgeous cheeks that'll pop in summer (The Veronicas), we were faced with a kaleidoscope of colours displayed in the prettiest ways. One of our favourite new trends? Lining our eyes with different colour shadows and liners. Blue is all the rage at the moment, but whichever colour you choose, it looks beautiful and was perfectly modelled by two major celebs this week. Click through the gallery to find out who, and get ready to be inspired!
It's hard to believe that the multi-talented Gwyneth Paltrow could be terrible at anything but the Oscar-winning actress confessed to her GOOP subscribers that she never gets it right when applying her own makeup. She turned to her makeup artist Emma Lovell for a step-by-step lesson for perfecting day- and night-time makeup, and we picked up a few product recommendations and tips along the way.
- Try the Clarisonic Blue Cleansing System ($249) — a must-have for prepping your skin.
- Always begin by putting your foundation on your hand first and use your fingers to apply it, starting from the centre and working outwards.
- Don't leave the house without curling your eyelashes before adding mascara.
- When applying eyeshadow, build the colour slowly in layers, not all at once.
- Dust your T-zone with loose setting powder to reduce shine and set your makeup.
