Last year was all about fixing my skin.

Last year was all about fixing my skin. I've told you all about my struggle with hormonal acne after coming off the pill (it made me feel a little loopy and moody), and it's been a bumpy ride to get to my destination — supermodel skin. Ambitious? Why yes. But with all the products on the market, why can't we all be free of acne, blackheads, pigmentation, dark circles and large pores? We spend the money, we should get the results. When it comes to miracle ingredients, retinol is high on our list.

When it comes to miracle ingredients, retinol is high on our list. Not only does it help with things like dark spots and acne, but it also keeps skin firm and taut. Is Retinol the Answer to Perfect Skin?

I've been pretty open about my struggle with hormonal breakouts, enlarged pores and not-so-great skin texture, so when one of Sydney's leading cosmetic physician's wrote me a prescription for tretinoin (a topical retinoid), I was kind of confused.

I've been pretty open about my struggle with hormonal breakouts, enlarged pores and not-so-great skin texture, so when one of Sydney's leading cosmetic physician's wrote me a prescription for tretinoin (a topical retinoid), I was kind of confused. She told me it was a form of vitamin A, and that it is most commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, but also acne.

This news (and the results) were life changing for me. I had a problem area on my right cheek and it completely cleared up, and my skin had never looked smoother. My blackheads were less pronounced and I actually haven't had a major breakout since. I've since replaced the tretinoin with DMK's Revise-A, but because I'd never been told about topical retinoids before, I thought other acne sufferers might be interested in learning more. Dr. Naomi McCullum explains all, after the jump.

5 Supplements to Help Stop Hormonal Breakouts

We all want that radiant, glowy Miranda Kerr-like skin.

We all want that radiant, glowy Miranda Kerr-like skin. Right? You know the type — invisible pores, dewy in texture, flawless and breakout-free. It sounds unrealistic, but I am here to tell you it is not! You see it's more about what you put into your body, rather than what products you put on your face. There's the usual suspects — two litres of water a day, minimal sugar and alcohol intake; but there's also some very secret little tablets called supplements. Sometimes they go under the guise of vitamins. So sneaky. If you read my review of PCA Skin Hydrating Serum, you'll know I'm a victim of hormonal breakouts, but I also have enlarged pores and this issue with blackheads — they're kind of like those annoying people at the end of a big party that just won't leave. But since committing to a daily supplement routine, my skin is in much better shape. Click through to find out what I'm taking each day.
