Influential Australian women (and some men) came together last night at Carriageworks in Sydney for InStyle’s annual Women of Style Awards. The glamorous event celebrated the achievements of women from all different fields, from entertainment to beauty, and on the white carpet actress Claudia Karvan said that was her favourite thing about awards like these — getting to mingle with people outside the film and TV industry. Many celebrities talked about the importance of making sure hard-working, inspirational women were recognised for their work, and also saw it as a great night to catch up with industry friends.

Among the winners honoured last night were Carrie Bickmore (readers’ choice), Rachel Griffiths (entertainment) and Carla Zampatti (fashion). To mark the awards’ fifth anniversary they introduced a Hall of Fame Award, and the inaugural one went to the magazine’s new cover girl, Nicole Kidman, for her continued career and community contributions. Unfortunately Nicole couldn’t attend because she is at the Cannes Film Festival — her mother accepted the award on her behalf — but there was still a star-studded guest list including Kate Waterhouse, Samara Weaving, Charlotte Dawson and Michelle Bridges, who brought along her fellow The Biggest Loser trainer Steve “The Commando” Willis.

InStyle magazine hosted their annual Women of Style Awards last night in Sydney, drawing a fabulously dressed crowd to Eveleigh's CarriageWorks. Designer Carla Zampatti was honoured with the Fashion Award, and an absentee Nicole Kidman was awarded the Hall of Fame gong. We, as usual, were just as interested in scoping out the what the A-list crowd wore to this style-driven event as who-won-what. Lindy Klim wowed in a sculptural Toni Maticevski number, The Voice alumn' Emma Birdsall went the retro route in a brocade Carla Zampatti number, Samara Weaving showed off her killer figure in a sheer-spliced LBD and Kate Waterhouse kept it casual in a relaxed Lanvin top + pant combo. Last night Australia's finest women descended on Sydney to help announce the winners for InStyle's annual Women of Style Awards. Lindy Klim was a finalist in the beauty category, narrowly missing the top gong to Nad's founder Sue Ismiel. Cosmopolitan magazine certainly isn't ashamed to acknowledge its age — throwing a chic 40th birthday soirée for the Sydney social set yesterday in Sydney. A slew of media personalities, current Cosmo columnists, fashion-types and ex-editors of the masthead lunched under a ceiling of balloons at Otto restaurant on the Wooloomooloo wharf, briefly being interrupted by current editor Bronwyn McCahon who spoke of meeting Cosmopolitan's iconic founder Helen Gurley Brown. Delicious three course meal and gifted Blackerry Z10s aside, we were most interested in what these ladies-who-lunch wore. Step inside to snoop all the style on show. 

Cosmopolitan magazine celebrates its 40th birthday this month and rounded up Australia’s glamorous social set for an exclusive lunch at Otto Ristorante at Woolloomooloo in Sydney yesterday. The publication’s editors over the years came together for the event and were joined by the likes of Jodi Anasta, Rachael Finch, Laura Dundovic and Kate Waterhouse to dine under a canopy of balloons that were so low the guests had to watch their heads whenever they stood up. It was a lovely afternoon for celebrities to catch up with friends, and towards the end of the lunch current editor Bronwyn McCahon addressed the stylish room, surprising them with the news that everyone would be going home with a new BlackBerry.

We're inducting Katy Perry into our floral crown hall of fame, following her appearance at a photocall for The Smurfs 2 at the 5th Annual Summer of Sony party overnight. Floral crowns are always a hit on the red carpet, at the races (we're looking at you Delta Goodrem!), premieres and more, and we can totally see why — they look incredible. Flower headpieces are so pretty, so feminine, so colourful and best of all, so easy to whip up. While you could buy a professionally-made crown at a florist, it's super simple to craft your own. All you need is fishing wire and a couple bunches of your fave flowers — the fuller the better. Thread the flower buds and blooms onto the wire (being sure to include a few bits of greenery, too), then close the fishing wire to make a circle large enough to sit atop your head. Those Italians sure know how to have a good time! Paolo and Gildo Zegna, Chairman and CEO respectively, of Ermenegildo Zegna flew in to Australia to present the 50th anniversary Wool Trophy Awards last night in Sydney. The Royal Hall of Industries was transformed into a three-pronged spectacular: encompassing a multi-media digital installation, Australia's longest ever mens catwalk show and a chic cocktail party for the 1,000 VIP guests. The Temper Trap played, Chris Hemsworth made a cameo, the drinks flowed and the guests were dressed to the nines!

Special mention goes to Prinnie Stevens in lemon Steven Khalil, hostess for the evening Megan Gale (opened proceedings in fluent Italian) who looked elegant in an Agnona LBD and Kerri-Anne Kennerley who shone in Alex Perry. Want to see more? Step inside to snoop all the stylish A-list arrivals. 

With two of Australia's biggest fashion events falling in the same seven-day period, we always knew this was going to be a doozy of a week when it comes to style. The Logies were off first — TV's "night of nights", where our favourite stars get to doll up and wear Oscars-worthy gowns. Some were incredible — and some less so — but Samara Weaving certainly stood out from the crowd, in the best way possible. Joining her on the red carpet best-dressed list? Laura Dundovic and Carrie Bickmore, in their equally impressive gowns.

And then came fashion week. From Aussie models and TV presenters to women who are recognised globally for their style blogs, the streets of Redfern hadn't looked this good since. . . well, a long time. Lara Bingle kicked things off with a cut-out number in her current go-to colour, black, while Nikki Phillips generously contributed to the colour spectrum with her mini-skirt suit set. And the rest of the globe? Miranda Kerr's street style won us over (again) in LA, Solange Knowles did what she does best, and Katy Perry? She toned things down a notch, and we think her dark, feminine ensemble looks divine. Take a stylish step this way to check it all out.

Yesterday was day three of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, and it featured back-to-back shows that had guests moving all around Sydney to see the latest collections from designers. The morning kicked off with Lisa Ho at the Art Gallery of NSW, returned to MBFWA HQ (Carriageworks in Eveleigh) for Alice McCall, Serpent & the Swan and We Are Handsome, and then the fashion pack headed to Centennial Park for Camilla’s lavish show. The night finished with beautiful shows from the likes of Michael Lo Sordo and Easton Pearson at Carriageworks. We’ve rounding up the front row celebrities, so click through for the latest attendees. Fashion week is always all about the latest and greatest hair and beauty trends that come down the runway — but what's happening to the side of the catwalk is just as interesting! Front row beauty never fails to impress us, and this year looks to be better than ever. Lara Bingle has wowed us with her glowing skin and nude, neutral makeup at Camilla and Marc (before switching over to the dark side for Romance Was Born), while Phoebe Tonkin took the sexy, mussed-up route with her cool, textured hair 'do. Candice Lake opted for porcelain skin and glossy lips, Carissa Walford debuted a darker new 'do and Sarah Murdoch and Megan Gale both let their cheekbones do all the talking.
