We've recently announced the finalists and winners across 29 categories in the POPSUGAR Australia Beauty Awards 2013. It's been an eye-opening experience for us — it's always interesting to find out what you're loving, trying and buying — but the judges' picks and tips have also blown us out of our beauty cabinets and into stores to try something new. We couldn't let this opportunity go by without collating all their favourite entries alongside some their expert advice, so please, enjoy.
If you're looking for a fun runway look that's still totally wearable, look no further than Milly's Spring 2014 collection. "The girls look like they came out of a steam room," explained Romy Soleimani for Beauty.com. She created the dewy skin using Joanna Vargas Skincare Rejuvenating Serum on the eyelids and along the cheekbones and brow bones. But the cornerstone of the look was the matte red gradient lip, which was created using the Kevyn Aucoin Lip Pencil in Cerise in the inner part of the mouth and then dusted with an orange-red blush.
Kevin Ryan with R Session Tools created the easy-to-do bun. "The modern fabrics feel functional, so I wanted to create a style that looks like the girls just threw up their hair with a sense of urgency," he explained. The high messy bun had an element of texture, and Ryan made sure to leave some of the ends out. The nails by Katie Hughes of Butter London featured a white moon on top of a bare nail — "floating nail art," as Hughes likes to call it.
Quite possibly our most famous supermodelling export, Sarah Murdoch lives, looks and breaths Australian culture. Tall, lean, blonde and tanned, the mother of three has graced international and Australian magazine covers including Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, GQ and Harper's Bazaar; and has modelled for the likes of Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren and Bonds. We sat down with the ex-ballet dancer to find out her favourite beauty products, click through to read her answers and take a trip down memory lane. . .

Editor's Pick: Kevyn Aucoin The Mascara (Volume). "A favourite of many celebs, I first fell in love with his Precision Brow Pencil. While the US and Europe have been enjoying the cool edit of makeup available on luxury online retailer Net-a-Porter's Beauty hub, today, Australia enters the fold. It's still cheaper (and faster) to buy Aussie products like Lucas' Papaw Ointment and Miranda Kerr's Kora Organics range in stores here, but there's a few new brands we've not been able to buy in Australia before. Strong brows, power brows, boyish brows, straight brows, neat brows, sharp brows, skinny brows, trimmed brows. . . Whatever the shape or size, those strips of hair above our eyes are having more than a moment — they're changing the faces of an entire generation! While the '90s paved the way for thin eyebrows, things are (thankfully) a lot thicker now. There's a new trend toward natural, so we asked the POPSUGAR Australia editors' to tell us who they look to for brow inspiration and the product they use to get the look. Thank you Cara, thank you.
We have a little confession to make... We've recently acquired a very big crush on Lindy Klim — Michael Klim's super stylish (and gorgeous!) wife. She's not only a Balinese princess and former model, but also co-founder of the couple's burgeoning lifestyle brand, Milk & Co. A largely organic range, Milk & Co launched back in 2008 for men and babies, but the pair is currently working on a Milk By Lindy Klim line, as well as apparel. Recently listed as a finalist in the beauty category for the annual InStyle and Audi Women of Style Awards, we sat down with Lindy to quiz her on all things makeup, skincare, life in Bali and more.

Just one more sleep until Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, and I'm starting to prepare my kit. Covering the shows from a beauty perspective is very different to fashion, because I'm backstage stalking hair and makeup artists and snapping models, instead of sitting front row dissecting the fashion trends. I start to see the beauty trends take shape while the model is being transformed in the chair — usually while nibbling on an apple or reading a book (cuteness!). I'm all about comfort when it comes to fashion week, because when you're covering over 40 shows in five days, all you really want is a hair tie, lip balm and deodorant. True story. Come with me!
You don't have to wear bold colours to make a bold makeup statement. Ginnifer Goodwin looked striking with soft shades of pink paired with stunning arches at last weekend's LACMA 2012 Art + Film Gala. The structured look complemented her sleek pixie and the embellished neckline of her black Gucci dress. She balanced her bold brows with flirty lashes and thin winged liner.
Looking to frame your eyes with full, well-groomed brows, too? Opt for a brow pencil like Kevyn Aucoin Precision Brow Pencil ($39), which features a fine tip to fill in sparse areas or draw a natural looking shape (plus, the brush on the end allows you to groom every hair into place). To achieve more prominent brows, you can exaggerate the shape by slightly elongating the ends. The final touch: set your look with brow gel or wax for a polished finish.
