The Trick to Achieving Your Most Flattering Smoky Eye Yet

Kate Beckinsale has been all over the globe promoting Total Recall over the past few weeks, and she's been doing it with an impressive amount of flair. From gorgeous gowns to wavy chignons, the 39-year-old actress certainly knows how to dress to impress. Most recently at the London premiere, Kate opted for a sweet yet sultry makeup palette. Makeup artist Molly Stern applied baby pink tones to Kate's cheeks and lips, coupling the style with an alluring, smoked-out eye makeup look. And while Kate's multi-layered shadow technique seems complicated, it's actually easier to achieve than you think.

The key is to mix and match three shadows. To do this, Stern prepped Kate's lids and brow bones with Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Peach ($39). She then used a mixture of the brand's Baked Eye Colour in Black Karat ($35), a black-gold shade with gold pearl, and Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta ($35), a rich copper, for the base. To finish, she smudged the Terracotta shade underneath Kate's eyes for a softening, flattering effect.

Why You'll Want to Keep a Hot Pink Lipstick in Your Beauty Stash

At the Whitney Art Party this week, Kate Bosworth's natural beauty shone through with a low-profile look that featured a pretty petal pink lip colour.

At the Whitney Art Party this week, Kate Bosworth's natural beauty shone through with a low-profile look that featured a pretty petal pink lip colour. "The inspiration for Kate's look was clean with a note of sexy," makeup artist Molly Stern said. "We wanted her vibe to be effortless with a hint of cool." And surprisingly, a hot pink lipstick was used to create Kate's subtle shade. First, Stern applied NARS Lipstick in Tzigane as a base, and then the café au lait hue was blended with a hot pink tone, Victoria's Secret Sheer Lip Color Duo in Berry. The combination created a soft rose colour with a hint of gloss, and provided just enough brightness without taking it to extremes.

How-To: Maggie Gyllenhaal's Sexy Smoky Purple Eye

Maggie Gyllenhaal showed off a sultry look at the New York premiere of Nanny McPhee Returns Tuesday night, complete with perfect deep red lipstick and a gorgeous purple-brown smoky eye.

Maggie Gyllenhaal showed off a sultry look at the New York premiere of Nanny McPhee Returns Tuesday night, complete with perfect deep red lipstick and a gorgeous purple-brown smoky eye. Purple is HUGE right now so we spoke to CoverGirl makeup artist Molly Stern who created Maggie's makeup look to see what she did.

Eyes: Molly began by smoking Maggie's eyes out with Shu Uemura IR Purple 795 Pressed Eyeshadow ($39). Then, she lined Maggie's top lash line with Shiseido Automatic Fine Eyeliner in Brown ($60), which hits Australian counters on September 6, and smudged out her bottom lash line with a violet liquid liner. Try MAC LiquidLast Liner in Electrolady ($35). Molly finished up by putting two coats of brown mascara on Maggie's top lashes and added a little black mascara on the ends to give the look more impact.

Cheeks and lips: Molly used a powder brush to sweep Chantecaille Aquablush in Daring over the top of Maggie's cheekbones. Try Chantecaille Cheek Shade in Thrill ($42) for a similar look. For Maggie's lips, she used Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain in Saucy Plum. As this shade isn't stocked here try Plum Pout ($17.95) instead and finish with sheer gloss on top.
