We pick up so many tips and tricks backstage at fashion shows, so this week was particularly educational because we had both the David Jones and Myer Spring Summer fashion launches. Both shows proved the power of a simple, bold lip, and channelled all things warm with radiant skin and powerful hair. So for this week's new and improved budget beauty buy gallery, we thought we'd show you how to get the look at home with products a little cheaper but just as effective as those used on the runway. Time to click, see you at the other end with change from a 20.
Myer Launches Spring/Summer 2013 With Stylish Australian Stars
Lots of Australian stars made their way to the Hordern Pavilion for Myer’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection launch last night. Runway star and Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins glittered in gold sass & bide on the black carpet, keeping her appearance short and sweet so she could get ready for the catwalk. Kris Smith looked smart in a suit — and showed off some facial hair — before revealing his shirtless physique to model upcoming men’s Summer fashion. Laura Dundovic and Laura Csortan matched in metallics, wearing Jayson Brunsdon and Manning Cartell respectively, while Jesinta Campbell was glowing in floral Manning Cartell and excited to talk about her recent trip to LA, Vegas and Mexico, telling us, “It was so much fun. It was funny — there was a write-up the other day about the tan, and they said how fake it looked and how shocking it was. And I said, ‘Let me tell you, Mexico does not come in a can!’” TV stars were also well represented, with The Voice’s Emma Birdsall, Sarah De Bono and Darren Percival, MasterChef’s Andy Allen and Ben Milbourne, and Sunrise’s Melissa Doyle and David Koch attending. The Best Celebrity Beauty Looks: Our Favourite Designers, Jennifer Hawkins & More at the Myer Show
One of the best moments at any fashion show is the front row arrivals. It's such a treat to see our favourite celebrities all primped and preened, and looking their best. The beauty looks on show at last night's Myer Spring Summer 2013 Collections were very scrumptious, with the likes of Jennifer Hawkins, Jesinta Campbell and the amazing sass & bide girls, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, looking so bronzed we wanted to run away to a very stylish island with them. The Very Best Looks from the Myer Spring Summer 2013 Collection Launch
The mood was set as soon as we spotted the entrance to Sydney's Horden Pavilion for last night's Myer Spring Summer '13 collection launch. A majestic landscape from South Africa's Pilansberg National Park was projected onto the face of the building, bathing it in a warm African golden glow — hinting at the savannah-inspired set inside. As the round curtain of thousands of individual ropes lifted, we were treated to a 360 degree view of Myer's new season edit. Fluid silk silhouettes, pretty pastel palettes, punchy graphic prints (often doubled-up for added visual impact) and ladylike shapes were the top-line trends, and star-of-the-show Jennifer Hawkins wore her five exits (Toni Maticevski, Ellery, Manning Cartell, Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins and Aurelio Costarella) with the practised confidence of a runway veteran. It was loud, it was big, it was fast, it was fun! Shirtless Kris Smith was really just the icing on the top of this African-themed fashion feast. First Look: Yves Saint Laurent's Makeup Look for the Myer Spring Summer Collection Launch
There was a steady stream of bronzed beauties walking the Myer Spring Summer Collection Launch runway at the Hordern Pavilion last night, thanks to makeup director Natasha Severino and the Yves Saint Laurent team. Both looks for the show channelled exotic goddess-like beauty, with a strong focus on flawless, sun-kissed skin with a radiant glow.
Look one: "A bronzed goddess shining under the Sahara sun", was all about powerful lashes using Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils Mascara in Black, while the lip was nearly mute in Yves Saint Laurent Rouge in Pur.
Look two: "Luxe, exotic glamour" had a superb hero product in Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in Le Orange — providing a lip that you just couldn't miss.
On the Runway: All the Best Beauty Looks from the Myer Spring Summer 2013 Collections
Jennifer Hawkins led an amazing show at the Hordern Pavilion last night. The bronzed beauty led other models with sleek, low-set ponytails — a look created by Kevin Murphy and his team. He used his popular Color Bugs to dip-dye the ends for a powerful look inspired by the African influences of Myer’s Spring Summer campaign shoot. The makeup was led by director Natasha Severino for Yves Saint Laurent, and had a strong focus on flawless, sun-kissed skin with a radiant glow. The first look was all about the lashes and soft lips, while the second look spoke to the bright lip trend we've been loving of late, using Yves Saint Laurent's Rouge in Le Orange. First Look: Kevin Murphy's African Goddess Hair at Tonight's Myer Spring Summer Collection Launch
Models including Jennifer Hawkins are strutting the runway as we type, but here's a sneak peek at Kevin Murphy's African Goddess hair look at the Myer Spring Summer Collection Launch. Inspired by the African influences of Myer’s Spring Summer campaign shoot, Kevin Murphy and his team of stylists have been hard at work today creating the sleek, low-set ponytail on the models.
"To compliment the colourful print-on-print designs we’ll be seeing on the runway this season, we wanted to create a hair look that was simple and modern yet sophisticated and sexy, with its own striking pop of colour. Taking inspiration from Myer’s African shoot we decided to create a sexy, pulled back, ambre dip-dyed style,” says hair director, Kevin Murphy.
The powerful hairstyle is easy to get at home, click though to find out how.
