Anne Hathaway surprised us all at yesterday's Met Gala with her newly peroxide blonde hair and it got us thinking — did she colour it in one go? Or has it been gradual and she's been in hiding since her Oscar win? She admitted it is only temporary and plans to keep the look a little while longer, but what if you're a brunette and plan on going blonde for keeps? We spoke to Wayne Lewis from Original A and Original & Mineral for expert colour advice. Keep reading.

Last night in Sydney, Giorgio Armani opened their highly-anticipated beauty counter in Myer. Celebrities including Laura Dundovic and Zoe Marshall turned out to help celebrate the luxe affair, but there was one more lady to catch our attention — or rather, her hair did. Nicole Warne — also know as her blogger alias, Gary Pepper Vintage — sported hair so glossy, we almost wanted to run up and touch it. There's a few tips and tricks you can do at home to get shinier hair, keep reading.
Marion Cotillard went with a sleek, modern look at the Rust & Bone premiere in Tokyo yesterday, wearing her hair stick-straight and debuting short, blunt fringe. To get this low-volume look, sidestep the mousse and use a silkening serum like O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum ($31.95) for a high-gloss blow-dry. Then, go over with a flat iron to smooth strands. Finally, use a touch of styling wax on your fingers to style parted bangs for an added edge. Marion completed her look with sparkling copper shadow and a glossy salmon lip colour.
"I adore your new haircut, I'm sort of cyber-stalking it! You've similar texture and thickness to me, so I think a similar style could work. Could you talk me through how to describe [the cut] to a hairdresser, and how you go about styling it different ways and the products you love to use? It's always looking great. Thanks in advance and go the hair!" — Julie
We called it early on during yesterday's broadcast of the Oscars — Reese Witherspoon's hairstyle was immediately one of our favourite looks. There was nothing new about the style, but the bounce and gloss? Everything. Giuliana Rancic felt it too, asking only about the actress's hair when given the chance. Reese attributed her glorious mane to her recent pregnancy, something we know mum-to-be Jenna Dewan is also experiencing! While it differs greatly between each woman, the increase of estrogen during pregnancy can lead to rapid hair growth — hence Reese's ongoing fullness four months after giving birth.
"Reese's hair looks amazing because she would have followed a healthy diet during and after the pregnancy. A good diet that contains foods rich in Omega 3, fish oil and raw food all help prevent hair loss," says co-founder for Original & Mineral and owner for Original A Alan Buki. But that's not all. Get an insight into Reese's potential red carpet hair prep, after the break.
Gracing the cover of Glamour, Zooey Deschanel smoldered with her signature vintage look. But there was a twist in the inspiration for the cover — the rodeo. "That was photographer Ellen Von Unwerth's first impression after seeing the wardrobe selection for the shoot and knowing Zooey's personality," said celebrity hairstylist Roque, who worked with Oribe to create her cover look. "It's great to take retro inspiration and modernise it." See how you can pull off the look with Roque's tips.
Every brand has a hero product — the one that gains cult-like status and sometimes becomes more well-known than the brand itself. Here in Australia, one of our most famous beauty exports is paw paw ointment (Lucas Paw Paw, we're looking at you), but there's countless other five-star offerings made in our very own backyard. To celebrate the end of Australia Week we're showcasing the Aussie beauty all-stars — and we've even plucked out the hero product from each brand for you, too.
What's more Australian than a gorgeous girl leaving the beach with sexy, salty, textured hair? We say: nothing. With Australia Day fast approaching (um, it's tomorrow), we've got your nails covered and your fun outfit sorted out nicely, but the easiest way to amp up your Summer sex appeal and overall cool-girl beauty look is by spritzing a good quality sea salt spray through your locks. A few of us here at Sugar are big fans at the stuff, so we've tried and tested most of these. And let us tell you, they've got the goods. They don't weigh your hair down or leave it looking greasy, and they actually give you that sexy hair you've always wanted — think Lara Bingle, Sienna Miller and Jodi Gordon. Click through to see which ones we recommend, then spritz your way into your Oz Day delecbrations!
