The POPSUGAR editors’ are looking forward to a long weekend of catch-ups and indulging, so a simple cleanse, tone and moisturise scenario just won’t do! That's why this week they've picked some of their favourite beauty musts — all perfect for a pamper weekend. From hair masks to face masks, lipsticks and bubble bath — we've got it covered. Only one question remains: What will you be using this weekend?
As we edge closer and closer into Winter (shudder), the makeup look gets smokier, darker and sexier. While nail art takes a back seat, deep metallics and shiny, dark solids will reign supreme on fingertips this coming season. If you want to be ahead of the pack, jump on board this weekend with one of these decadent nail polish picks.
It may have been a short week (hooray for public holidays!) but it was as busy as ever — especially since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is just around the corner! We were kept busy this week as we covered all aspects of the latest and greatest celebrity, fashion and beauty news, and as usual, we updated Instagram along the way! Fashion editor Ali was thrown into the thick of all things fashion, taking in showings by talented Aussie designers Rebecca Vallance and Gary Bigeni, while beauty editor Alison chatted to Australian actress Phoebe Tonkin about all things beauty (and squeezed in a selfie). Last week we were considering drastic haircuts, bringing a bit of the tropics to our bods and promising to take care of our skin with regular facials; and as you can imagine, this week is suitably experimental in the land of beauty. We're channelling Diane Kruger's feet (yes, really), lusting over the perfect pink lipstick, saving our tired cuticles and nailing beauty for the traveller. Get clicking!
Whether you're one to follow trends or not, nails are the easiest way to jump on a new beauty look — and jump we do. But there's no denying that when all the trends (nail art, anyone?) die down, there are a few colours that every woman reverts to. Red is one of them. It's a true classic, one of those rare breeds that goes with everything and suits everyone. Here, we've pulled ten of the best red shades we could find. If you work in a conservative office environment, there's a raspberry-hued version for you. If you can go all out, why not go the sparkly crimson for a bit of fun? Or if you like to keep things simple, you can never go wrong with a bright, cherry red. Tip: keep your nails short. While we loved Ashley Madekwe's talons a few weeks ago, they might not be appreciated as much in the office. Click through for our picks!
We're seeing lots of graphic eyeliner this season, and the models at Karen Walker's Fall 2013 show had big, bold, and colourful winged eye makeup. The vibrant eyes were paired with a grunge-inspired hairstyle and black matte nails.
The look: Bright makeup with tousled hair and low ponytails.
The inspiration: Siouxsie Sioux.
Colour scheme: The green and orange eye makeup was inspired by shoes from the collection.
It's officially the month of love and to celebrate (any excuse, really) we're bringing you the latest and greatest products set to hit shelves this month. Bobbi Brown's Pink & Red Collection couldn't come at a better time — hello Valentine's Day face — and Benefit Cosmetics' The One is like a lip tint, cheek stain, contouring cream and highlighter in, well, one. You know we're big Yves Saint Laurent mascara fans, and this month they're coming at you with waterproof blue and violet. Way too amazing to explain in words, click through and see for yourself.
To say that we're excited about the release of Oz the Great and Powerful (it hits Aussie cinemas on March 7) is a fair understatement — after all, who doesn't love The Wizard of Oz? And now we have even more reason to be excited: OPI has tapped into the wizardry and whimsy, and created a collection of polishes inspired by the new film. With six limited-edition soft shades and a new Liquid Sand formula — which boasts a textured matte finish and reflective sparkles — there are plenty of ways to start enjoying the magic ahead of the movie. The limited-edition range will be available from mid-February, but you can check out the whole collection right now!
Call it whatever you like — taupe, greige, mushroom — but we've been big fans of this wear-with-anything shade for some time now. In fact when we wear it, it is the nail polish colour we get the most comments on. A bit more on the brown side of the colour spectrum rather than grey, greige can and will match anything you decide to wear and won't confuse your overall beauty look. It was a big hit on the red carpet recently, with celebrities including Marion Cotillard and Debra Messing rocking the non-committal hue. Click through to see 10 of our favourites.
It's likely you have a few bottles of clear nail polish lying around in your manicure kit. Now it's time to expand the horizons of your trusty clear lacquer into other areas, from furniture to fashion. We've collated our top 10 favourites, click through to learn more.
