See the Beauty Look at Chanel Cruise 2014

Karl Lagerfeld showcased the Cruise 2014 collection in Singapore yesterday and as we've come to expect from global creative director for Chanel makeup, Peter Philips, the beauty look is just as inspiring as the clothes. While the latter channelled Coco Chanel’s 1913 style, the makeup had it in the eyes with a bold and electrifying blue underneath, and a thick, cat-eye look on top. A soft complexion complemented a glossy nude lip and in all honesty, we're finding it hard to look away! Sam McKnight created an edgy, faux fringe for the hair; as seen on Cara Delevingne above. Stay tuned to find out if and when we'll be getting that blue eye makeup, but in the meantime, try a mix of Chanel Stylo Yeux Eyeshadow in Jade Shore and Blue Bay.

The Chanel 2012-13 Cruise collection took place in the gardens outside the Palace of Versailles in Paris (le sigh), and at the time, we were quite simply, enamoured. The sweet but punk-modern twist to the Marie Antoinette era was original and strong, fit with "bob top" hair and pink eyeshadow. Oh, and those beauty marks - they were pretty fantastic, too. Chanel's New Video Is Beautifully Trippy

Chanel's Creative Director Peter Philips has dreamed up another short film to showcase the brand's latest lip colour line, Rouge Allure. Inspired by Chanel's Paris Bombay show from December, "Miroir, Miroir" introduces five new shades of the lipstick in a decidedly non-traditional way. (And those tiny crystals and mirrors on Latvian model Inguta Butane's face? It's not a mask; they took a whopping four hours to apply individually.)

"The concept complemented the shades and the hypnotising, psychedelic aspect fit well with the Indian theme," Philips said, referring to the swirling kaleidoscope effect of the film. The result is a surprisingly beautiful blend of a very strange trip and a very luxe makeup counter. It shouldn't work, but somehow, it does.

It's no secret that whenever there's a Chanel show, the beauty-obsessed amongst us zone in immediately on the nails. Peter Philips, creative director of Chanel makeup, has set himself up as quite the trendsetter when it comes to new-season nail polish. From that Jade green that proved impossible to track down to Particulière, the griege polish that became the buzz colour of early 2010 he's proved himself time and again. The last few shows have revealed a more natural-looking nail but Chanel's Fall '13 Couture show is putting them back on the map. The manicure picked out the pink in the collection, using that as the main colour, but with silver detailing around the outside cuticle area. Magnifique, non? Yesterday wasn't all about Snow White and the Huntsman. Across the pond in France, the Chanel 2012-2013 Cruise collection was taking place in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Le sigh. The collection itself served up a punk-modern twist to the Marie Antoinette era which translated into a fun beauty look. Think pastel wigs atop ponytails or "bob tops" as hairstylist Sam McKnight called them, a wash of pink eyeshadow taken right up to the brow, a pop of pink on the cheeks and the star - Chanel's iconic interlocking C's placed underneath the eye in beauty mark fashion. The only slight disappointment? The lack of a new nail lust-have as models' fingertips were left au natural but still, we've got to hand it to you Karl, you've done it again.

When hairstylist Sam McKnight and makeup artist Peter Philips unite, you know that something magical is going to happen. And it certainly did in Milan yesterday as models took to the runway sporting one of our favourite looks of Milan Fashion Week so far. McKnight cited many references for the sharp, slick style he created, including Angelica Huston, tribal, the Victorian period and a nod to the '70s. He coated strands in Sebastian Gel Forte before creating twisted braids across the forehead and in pigtails. Upon Karl Lagerfeld's request to highlight the white accents in the collection, Philips painted white out towards the temple.

The most-anticipated show of the season (for us hardened Le Vernis addicts, anyway) took place in Paris yesterday as Karl Lagerfeld showed his Chanel Spring 2012 collection. Never one to do things by halves, the Grand Palais was transformed into a magical under-the-sea scene which inspired the beauty team: Chanel's go-to guys, makeup artist Peter Philips and hairstylist Sam McKnight. It translated into dewy, shimmering lids and wet-look lips and that gorgeously natural and romantic flush of blush that Philips does like no other. Hair wise, slick chignons were finished with pearls to carry the theme through -they also adorned models' ears, noses and even spines. And on nails we spied this pretty opaque pearlescent shade as well as a bright baby pink. Do you like it? We think it makes a pretty bridal beauty look, no?
