Every Fashion Week has a unique personality, and ours can only be categorised as fearless. It is not rare to see full-on costume makeup on the MBFWA catwalks, but on the other hand, there are also edgy looks that push the envelope without being impossible to re-create at home. This was Indian-born, Sydney based designer Roopa Pemmaraju's second fashion week showing and the collection was just as full of jubilent prints as it was her debut show. Working predominently with traditional indigenous artists, Roopa works to further the cause of ethical and fair trade business — turning their vibrant artworks into headturning garments. Clever placement of prints of the body works to brilliant effect, with contrasting sleeves, collars and waistbands upping the eye candy quotient of brilliantly-hued shirt dresses and shifts. Wallflowers: beware. This stuff will get you noticed.
