How-To: Rose Byrne's Modern Grecian Emmys Hairstyle

When you're nominated for an Emmy, you have to go all out in the hair and makeup department - which I guess is what Rose Byrne did. It was a bit of a hit and miss choice, causing mixed judgement from peeps, but props to Rose for stepping outside the square. John Frieda stylist Harry Josh was the man behind the dishevelled 'do which is super-easy to recreate at home.

To get the look, while Rose's hair was still wet, Harry worked John Frieda Luxurious Volume Bountiful Body® Mousse ($15.99) through and then blew it dry using a boar-bristle brush.

Then Harry used a 3/4-inch curling iron throughout Rose's hair and pulled a portion of the curls into a ponytail at the crown of her head.

Next he pulled her hair into a high bun, pulling out individual curls for a Grecian-inspired style with a modern twist. Harry secured the style with John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Out Hold® Hair Spray ($15.99) to maintain.

I was expecting BIG things from the Byrnester - she's my biggest hair crush after all. But to me this style is more bird's nest than beautiful. Teased within an inch of its life, it's just too matted and not soft and romantic enough for me. Sigh. Luckily her makeup scores her some brownie points for being signature Rose: smokin' smoky eye, flawless, radiant skin and a gorgeous nude lip. What do you think: do you like the messy-chic look?

The Bold Lip Face-Off: Rose Byrne vs. Leona Lewis

Two days, two events, two leading ladies and two bold lip colours. I would normally start by admonishing Leona Lewis for not sticking to Rule #37 of Makeup Application: Thy Shall Only Play Up Thee Eye or Thee Lip, but she managed to pull off (deep breath) a-winged-eye-green-shadow-luminous-cheeks-and-bright-pinky-coral-lip with ease at the UK Salt premiere yesterday. Don't ask me how. I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe it's because she won The X Factor. Maybe not. But let's zone in on that lip colour anyhoo. I have one just like it: MAC Victorian ($35). S'amazing. Love it. Which is making me rather biased. Still I do like Rose's fire engine red that she wore to present an award at the 2010 Breakthrough Of The Year Awards in LA Sunday night. Hmmm. A bright new boldie vs a golden oldie. What's your pref?

Question: Does Rose Byrne Have the Best Hair in the World?

The simple answer is: yes, yes, screaming fireballs, YES! But that wouldn't make for a very good read, so let's look at why I think Rose Byrne displayed the best hair at the LA premiere of Get Him to the Greek and then you can vote whether you agree. Fun, huh? Firstly, might I draw your attention to beaut-iful transitioning of colour that Rose has going on. Softer than most balayage, yet classier than grown-out colour, it's proper Movie Star Hair and I want it. Next, we must note how tricky it can be to wear volume and wear it well, yet Rose makes it look easy. And those curls: perfectly shaped, without appearing overdone. In closing, I call the perfectly complementing smoky eye to the stand. You've done it, Rose. You've done it again. Does anyone (ie. mad people) beg to differ?

Love It or Hate It: Aussie Girls Embracing Their Curls

I said earlier in the week that I wasn't a fan of Kylie's curls, then they started to grow on me, but now I'm not so sure again. I think the problem is Rose Byrne. Grrr that Rose. She just looks so beautiful with curls that anyone else fails miserably by comparison in the ringlet department, don't you think? That aside though, what are we feeling about Kyles, Rose and MG trading in the sleek, straight look for curly-wurly 'dos? I'm rather liking it, are you?

Winner: Melissa George

Melissa made the journey from Home and Away to Hollywood seem simple; always scoring top marks for her beauty and style choices. I was bowled over by her old Hollywood charm when she attended the opening of Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne earlier this month–the deep berry lip and loose Marcel waves really work against her porcelain skin. And of course it seemed only fitting that she should earn the award whilst on Australian soil.
