Getting a professional manicure is one of life's simplest and greatest pleasures, but it's not always a smart move to skip rent payments just so you can have good-looking nails (sigh). The mood backstage at Tracy Reese Spring 2014 was filled with fun. The Latin music that filtered in from the runway sound check bolstered the Afro-Cuban beauty theme. Ouidad creative director Morgan Willhite embraced each model's natural hair texture to create a textured bun with tendrils flowing around the face.
For makeup, Mally Roncal used a smudging technique to give the eyeliner a slept-in look. The lip was high-gloss and even the brows had a touch of lip gloss for shine. But the element we always look forward to from the Tracy Reese show is the manicure. This season the windowpane nail art by Sally Hansen was inspired by the gingham and checkered prints of the collection. Lead manicurist Tracylee used Mojito, Carnivale, and Batbano Blue (colors releasing this March) as a base for the simple black design.
For the finishing touch, Reese requested that models be swathed in temporary tattoos.
If you thought Spring meant plenty of shine, then think again. Everything from the hair to the nails to the makeup was matte at Prabal Gurung's Spring 2014 show. The makeup was focused on the lips, which were painted in one of three matte shades: orange, lavender, and Pepto pink. "He wanted the girls to have this sense of perfection and elegance," lead makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury for Mac Cosmetics said.
Since the collection was quite couture, the hair was meant to mimic it. Paul Hanlon for Osis wanted the girls to have hair so perfect, it looked almost preserved. "It's almost as if they've been sitting in formaldehyde and are stepping out to show their perfection just for a minute," he said. Wet-looking hair was matted down, following the shape of the girls' heads and necks, allowing one of the ears to poke through to show off the gorgeous, embellished earring. Nails by Sally Hansen were a new take on the french manicure: matte with just a touch of shine at the tip.
We love our clothes and we love our beauty products, so it's only natural that we adore designer beauty collaborations. It's a way for us to get the best of both worlds: the artistry of our favourite designers splashed across a cute compact or our go-to mascara donning the pumped-up colours of our treasured tops. And with a new season in the air, you'd better believe that the collaborations are rolling in faster than we can count. There's some we can get our hands on, and others we can only dream about getting. But nevertheless, if you're ever on the side of the world you might want to pick these up. So, step this way, we've rounded up the crème de la crème of collabs for your viewing pleasure. Click on and enjoy!
It's the last month of Winter, and we're over halfway through the year — who's excited for some sunshine?
