The year in movies has been a full, exciting one — new franchises were introduced, while others wrapped up their run. Box office records were broken, and highly anticipated movies made their mark, though an unfortunate tragedy also rocked the movie world. Take a look back at the biggest movie headlines of 2012.
Christian Bale and his wife, Sibi Blazic, brought flowers to contribute to the memorial outside the scene of the Dark Knight Rises massacre at the Century 16 cinema in Aurora, Colorado, today. Earlier in the day, Christian also made a stop by the hospital to visit the victims of the shooting. One of the patients who was hurt during the attack, Carey Rottman, posted a photo of himself with Bale in his hospital room on his Facebook wall. Christian reportedly made the trip to Colorado on his own, not as a representative of the Warner Bros. movie studio or film. On Friday, Christian released a statement after the Dark Knight Rises shooting, saying, "Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."
Catwoman's been the constant foil to Batman since the series first aired in the 1960s. The Dark Knight Rises premiered theaters on Thursday — and a seriously tough, motorcycle-riding, leather-clad Anne Hathaway makes her Catwoman debut as the latest incarnation of the ultimate super-villain, which got us thinking about the character's costume evolution. Both Catwoman and Batgirl have been reinvented since Batman's early days as a campy action series. Now, we're taking a look back at the most memorable leading ladies and villains — from Yvonne Craig's turn as the original Batgirl to Halle Berry's super sexy Catwoman, click through to see how they've changed.

Christopher Nolan released a statement today on the tragic shooting that killed 12 and injured dozens at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado, on Friday. The film's director spoke on behalf of the cast and crew, saying, "I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community." He went on to say, "The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me."
Warner Bros. also issued a statement, saying they were "deeply shocked and saddened" by the incident. The studio is also reportedly editing gun violence out of the theatrical trailer, and some TV stations are pulling ads for the film off the air.
Earlier Friday morning, President Barack Obama spoke about the shooting, telling victims that "we will be here for them as a nation" during a speech in Fort Myers, Florida.
The suspected gunman, 24-year-old James Holmes, entered the cinema through an exit door and released a gas canister before opening fire at the movie audience. He is currently in custody.

Day after day Anne Hathaway has impressed us this week while on tour for The Dark Knight Rises. Anne plays the villainous Catwoman in the Batman blockbuster but her red carpet looks are more angelic than the infamous spray-on costume she wears on screen. For the New York City premiere Anne turned to American designer Prabal Gurung, looking angelic in a floor-length gown. Then, for the European premiere, it was a golden Gucci gown that the actress lit up the red carpet in. In between there were some stellar off-duty and in-transit ensembles, too! Take a peek at Anne Hathaway's Week in Chic.
This week was big week of change. We farewelled BellaSugar Australia's original editor Sarah (sob) and welcomed her delightful replacement Alison (hi there!). With that came a bit of desk hopping, with FabSugar ed Ali bagging herself a sunnier spot, after all — a change is as good as holiday! PopSugar ed Jess got into the spirit of The Dark Knight Rises, Ali got up close and personal with the impressive entries to the International Woolmark Prize and (as always) we ate our weekly fill of sweet treats. See what else filled our Sugar Diary this week!
Anne Hathaway gave us a gorgeous white Prabal Gurung gown in NYC, and now she's giving us another soft shade to gush over. For the London premiere, Anne selected a fully embellished gold gown by Gucci, complete with a floral-trimmed neckline. She let her pixie cut take center stage, and punched up her look with a pink lip. Watch today's Fab Flash to see more outfits from Anne and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
