Minute Makeover: Revive Flat Roots in a Snap

Hair can be a little testy from time to time, and trying to get it to bounce back when you're not within five feet of a blow dryer might seem near impossible. Everything from product overload to a rainy afternoon to your trendy chapeau can suck the height right out. But when your roots go limp and you're in a pinch, there are quick steps to take to give them a shot of volume.
- If your hair is a little damp, simply flip your head upside down and finger-brush it away from your scalp to keep it from matting against your head.
- If you have a dry shampoo, take the top two layers of your hair and apply the product to the roots only. One that adds volume, like Tigi Catwalk Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo ($29.95), is good to have on hand.
- Strategically spritzed shots of hair spray are another way to jolt flat hair back to life. Standing with your head upside down, divide your hair from ear-to-ear, and spray along that part. Then, spray down the palms of your hands and work the product into your hair's top layer, making sure to brush your fingers away from your scalp. Flip your hair back into place for an instantly puffed-up coif.
- If all else fails and you have long hair, a trendy topknot is a quick and easy style to pull off. Bonus: If you keep this updo loose around the roots, you can always pull it out after a few hours for a slightly waved look with loads of volume.
10 of the Best: Sea Salt Sprays For Sexy Beach Waves
From the Spring '11 runways to the strands on a slew of celebs (think: Gossip Girl's Blake Lively), tousled beach waves are a foolproof style for Summer — and the good news is you need just one product to recreate the look at home if you don't fancy an ocean dip. Adding sea salt spray to hair instantly adds texture and body without weighing it down, leaving you with sexy, natural-looking waves to leave loose and flowing or to tie up in fuss-free ponytail.
Get Super Shiny Hair Like Olivia Palermo With These Picks!
It's official. We have hair envy. If we're being honest with ourselves, we've had it ever since Olivia Palermo ditched the length and opted for the universally flattering lob. But Liv took it up a notch when she attended the NYC screening of Midnight in Paris, hosted by The Cinema Society and Thierry Mugler last night. We had to put on our sunnies to take in the seriously shine that Ms. P was packing.
We want in, we said to ourselves. So we hit up ShopStyle Australia, picked out the crème de la crème of shince-enhancing products — only the best for Olivia and I — and are ready to swish our silky strands! Want in? We thought you might! Check out our perfect product picks for shiny hair below.
Has the Royal Wedding Inspired a Hair Care Line?
Though plenty of royal wedding rumours have been proven false, here's a fun bit of truth in beauty: hair care brand Tigi's new volumizing Your Highness collection is a nod to the British royals. (The line comprises a shampoo, conditioner, root boosting spray, shine spray, hair spray, and gel.) Sure, it's a convenient tie-in with Will and Kate's nuptials, but even if you're over wedding mania, there's something worth seeing. The Young Royals microsite features four ridiculously easy-to-follow hairstyling tutorials, including tips for creating this punk-princess updo. Because you know what they say: The higher the hair, the closer to royal heir. Or something like that.

2010 A/W London Fashion Week: Christopher Kane

Who knew that cowlicks would one day become desirable, nay, trendy? Not me, that's for sure. I developed one when I had blunt bangs cut in after watching The Devil Wears Prada and it was a painful. I was ready to shave my head. But clearly Christopher Kane thinks otherwise, as, together with hairstylist Paul Hanlon, the "exaggerated cowlick" walked the runway in London. WWD reports that Hanlon used TIGI Catwalk Volume Collection Your Highness Root Boost Spray ($29.95) to create the look, while again "no makeup makeup" was the order of the day, with a hint of bronzed-apricot on the cheek providing the only (albeit ultra subtle) burst of colour. Can you see yourself purposely styling in a cowlick? I'm not so sure . . .
