Give your hairstyle a trendy boost this season with a braided topknot, much like the one Nina Dobrev was spotted wearing earlier this year. The style, which starts as a reverse French braid at the nape and flows up to the crown in a voluminous topknot, only looks difficult to re-create. In fact, this easy up 'do is best when you're not striving for total perfection. On Kirbie: Club Monaco top.
There's something about a big, genuine, happy smile that makes anyone look their absolute best. Of course, Diane Kruger's immaculate makeup and hair didn't hurt the cause, but this week we were blown away by how happy she seems — and how fantastic she looks for it! We love what she's done with her hair, pulling it back sleekly enough that it shares the limelight with those incredible earrings. Emilia Clarke was another star to tuck her hair behind her ears, which framed her face (and impressive eye makeup!) beautifully. Megan Gale opted for a fresh topknot, Barbara Palvin worked one of the sexiest cat-eye flicks we've seen, and Alexa Chung got along with a matte pink lip like a house on fire. See all this prettiness right here, right now.
Let's be blunt, shall we? Blake Lively has enviable hair. Whether the star is rocking some serious bedhair, looking cute and chic in a plait or just going au naturale, she always works that mane of hers like it's nobody's business. Better still, she's waaay ahead of the trend game. This season's hottest hair looks — get acquainted in the gallery — have all been introduced to us by Blake, at various events over the past year. What with Spring in full swing, you'll appreciate having four new looks to try out — because just like in fashion, certain hairstyles can go out of style (The Rachel, anyone?), and you certainly don't want to be behind the times. Stunning on the red carpet is one of Diane Kruger's best moves, and at the premiere of Inescapable at the Toronto Film Festival, she upped the ante. Her tight, yet somehow wispy top knot was both glamorous and edgy. Celebrity hairstylist Kylee Heath, who styled Diane's hair for the premiere, explained that her inspiration was Valentino's Fall 2012 couture show. "We wanted to modernise the look a bit with a soft edge," she said. To achieve the runway-inspired style, Heath started with a cocktail of Oscar Blandi Volumizing Spray on Diane's ends and Kérastase Mousse Volumactive on her roots.
After she blew out Diane's hair, she pulled it up into a high ponytail. The trick to this sleek bun is that Heath broke the ponytail into three sections, wrapping them around the base one at a time, securing with pins. She finished with a mist of Frederic Fekkai Sheer Hold Hair Spray. "I chose to leave the hairs around the hairline soft and not slick," she said. "This made the look more red carpet and less runway." And also insanely easy to replicate at home.
A top knot may not be a new kid on the hairstyle block, but because the look is so versatile, this fail-safe style has become the go-to look on red carpets everywhere. While the classic, slicked ballerina bun may have initially been the inspiration for this style, each of these five celebrities — including Nicole Richie and Glee's Jenna Ushkowitz — took a twist on tradition and the results paid off.
