How-To: Fake an Undercut Like Kelly O in 4 Easy Steps

Ombré highlights may be all the rage in the hair colouring world, but as far as haircuts are concerned, if you're too cool for school the beehive, the undercut is the style of the moment. Worn by stars like Alice Dellal, Rihanna and Mel B, the look is not for the faint hearted. So if you like the cut, but don't want to shear away half your hair, you can easily fake it with these tips . . .

STEP 1: First blow-dry the hair using a light-hold gel to tame frizz. This will also give the hair shine and light staying power.

STEP 2: Next, create a deep side part.

STEP 3: On the non-heavy side of the part, apply more gel (you can even use water) to slick the hair to the side. Use bobby pins placed an inch or two behind the ear to secure. Then, spritz with hairspray to hold.

STEP 4: Brush the hair on the heavy side of the part toward the face or over the eye for emphasis. If you need more lift, simply tease at the roots or lightly spray the roots with hairspray and blast with a dryer. Or go for curls like Kelly Osbourne.

Trend Alert: Ombré Highlights

Love highlights, but aren't so fond of the upkeep? Me neither. 'Tis why I opt for the ombré effect that's popping up left, right and centre in Celebville. The latest star to join in on the trend is Jessica Biel, who showed off a darker base colour, complete with golden blond strands peeking out from the ends, at a photo call for The A-Team in Madrid yesterday. Ashlee Simpson and Rachel Bilson have also been wearing the style of late, with Ashlee explaining to us the reasoning behind her newer dip-dyed look. It's no wonder stars are flocking to salons to get the style. Not only is it easy to maintain (since roots are encouraged), but depending on the variation of colours you choose, it can also appear either super subtle or intense. LOVE.

I love a good twist on the French manicure. 'Tis why I love YSL's Rock & Baroque duos so appealing. But I'm not so sure about Jennifer Love Hewitt's take on the trend. She was in Vegas to promote her new movie, The Client List, and at first I was all about how much a fringe suits her. Sure, it's not styled ah-mazingly here but it really works well on her. Then I noticed it. The nails. The yellow tips. My first thought was gross. My second was the same. It's not that it's bad, bad, but more unexpected, I guess. It's not your usual nail look. Or even your usual alternative nail look. What do you think? You rate it?

Georgia May Jagger covered that sensational pout of hers in opaque lilac in the July issue of Vogue China, while model Ginta Lapina debuted a slightly metallic take on the lavender lip trend for Versace Resort 2011. Issue 66 of V magazine is all about sexy bodies. No surprises then that Miranda Kerr and Karolina Kurkova make an appearance. I'm just wondering why I wasn't asked. Given the premise, you'd expect their shoot to be all about flaunting and flouncing around in next-to-nothing, 'tis what we're used to from these two, but it's their runway-ready beauty looks that caught my eye. Sporting '50s housewife curls, with a Fendi-style rockabilly quiff, Miranda has bold, heavily-defined brows, while Karolina's brows take on a Balenciaga twist, featuring a burst of red colour thanks to Chanel's Sculpte Sourcils Sculpting Brow Pencil in Auburn. But what I'm loving most is the beige sheen on her lips, said to be Trend # 2 after braids. Indulge.
