So you know we're going a little loco on the Australiana theme this week — but what better time to celebrate all that is great about Aussie celebs and products made Down Under than the lead-up to Australia Day? We always look forward to events like the Logies and any Australian film premiere, because we get to see stars including Jodi Gordon, Lara Bingle and Rose Byrne flexing their makeup muscles. We asked the Sugar eds to pick their all-time favourite Australian beauty moment; plus the product they'll be purchasing to get thy look at home.
Aside from the festive season and festival action (more on that later), we've got Summer beauty on the brain. With each new season, we try to experiment with different trends and beauty products because, well, it's very fun. We asked the Sugar editors to tell us what they'll be wearing on their pretty faces, legs, lips, in their hair and on their eyes. Ready for some inspiration?
Yesterday marked exactly one month until Christmas and although we have no idea where this year went, we do have 10 gift ideas for your boyfriend. Buying a pressie for the main man in your life is easy because, wait for it, men are simple. From cologne to cute soaps and a shaving brush to take care of that Movember 'mo, click through.
We know her best for that Victoria's Secret bod and her perfect model style, but Miranda Kerr is also a dark horse in the off-duty beauty stakes. She's a big fan of low-key hair, but we think her top knot on the streets on New York yesterday is definitely one to try at home. The proof is in the Christmas pudding that you don't need to try hard to make this hairstyle work — it's all about letting those baby hairs and flyaways do their thing.
Start with second-day hair, and add some salt spray to the mid-lengths and ends, we love Evo Salty Dog Beach Cocktail Spray ($26.95). Rough dry the product in using the hot setting on your hairdryer, and then leave for a few minutes to cool (the secret to any lasting hairstyle is allowing your strands to cool, and set). Once you have that edgy texture, whip it up into a messy bun and gently create some flyaways by rubbing the palm of your hand in circular motions around the rest of your head. Voilà! The perfect off-duty model beauty look.
Full coverage foundation sounds a bit extreme, but what we mean is the foundation you would wear to someone's wedding or for a night out on the town with the girls — to any special event really. It's heavier than the foundation or tinted moisturiser you might wear to work, and it gives you a flawless, where-has-my-real-skin-gone look. You know the type when you have to wash your face like three times to get it off? That one! We've also got party season beauty front of mind, so there's no better time to talk full coverage. In order to get a heavier application to stay-put, the same beauty rules apply — you need to finish with... finishing powder! The Sugar eds reveal their ultimate event makeup combo inside, ready?
Step One: After applying a base coat — I used Butter London Nail Foundation ($24.95) — apply two coats of the bright turquoise shade.
Step Two: Rip off a small piece of a makeup sponge; the ripped edge gives you the best texture to create the ombré effect. Pour a little glitter polish from the bottle onto a piece of paper and dab the sponge into a drop of the polish. Next, apply the polish-dipped sponge to the base of the nail, moving up to the middle of the nail. Be sure to apply a higher concentration of glitter polish at the base to create that ombré effect.
Step Three: Finish by sealing your design with a top coat, like Butter London Hardwear P.D. Quick Top Coat ($27).
When we're prepping for the Spring racing carnival, the most important beauty-related things happen the night before the big day. You might not think it, but the condition of your skin plays a huge part in your overall look on the day — true story! Acquiring a radiant face, hydrated limbs and polished pins should be top priority, so we asked the Sugar eds to reveal their night before hero products. Face masks and body exfoliators at the ready? Let's go.
Just one quick glance at this week's roundup of the best celebrity beauty looks tells us everything we need to know about up-and-coming hair and makeup trends. Keen to know what's on the ever-so-beautiful horizon? Bright lips are here to stay — only, they've taken on a more matte turn, and are looking sexier than ever (think just-bitten looks like Phoebe Tonkin's, and loud statements like Annabella Barber). Long, lustrous hair is in, so if you've got it, flaunt it — just like Sofia Vergara and Kristen Stewart did over the week. And eyes? Well, if they aren't making statements, we don't know what is. Click through the gallery to see who rocked some serious eye art recently, and discover exactly what needs to be on your beauty radar now. Go on, it's so pretty in there!
