Green tea, caffeine and açaí berries have previously been touted as buzz-worthy beauty ingredients, but now it's turmeric's time. The vivid ochre yellow powder is typically used in Indian cuisine, not only to flavour and add pigment, but also as an Ayurvedic medicine as the spice is reportedly said to benefit Alzheimer's disease, arthritis and other disorders.

It's now being hailed as the new buzz ingredient by beauty experts, particularly Vasso Petrou, who is responsible for forecasting the trends for P&G (whose brand portfolio includes Olay, SK-II, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Gillette and many more). We do everything we can to turn back the hands of time but scientists from the University of Gothenburg have found a simple and cheap way to prevent ageing: cutting down on calories! It seems that a healthy diet not only helps you live longer, but also look younger. Mikael Molin, who conducted the research, says:

"We are able to show that caloric restriction slows down ageing by preventing an enzyme, peroxiredoxin, from being inactivated. This enzyme is also extremely important in counteracting damage to our genetic material. Impaired Prx1 function leads to various types of genetic defects and cancer."
