There's never a better time than the Oscars to bring out the jewel-encrusted hair accessories, just like the ones Kate Mara and Paula Patton elegantly wore at this year's festivities. While Kate and Paula's pieces were more elaborate, Zooey Deschanel opted for a more casual, square-shaped sparkle when she attended a charity function late last week, further proving that, just like your good china, there's no reason not to bring out your fanciest goods at any time.
Fashion commentator Louise Roe was inspired by Ashley Greene when it came to picking an Oscars hairstyle. Taking lead from the Twilight actress' 2011 Costume Institute Gala look, Louise opted for a side bun complete with a pewter brooch which acted as a barrette. On the makeup front, it's all about the eyes, with a feline flick topped off with light pink gloss.

As she took her place front row next to Anna Wintour at Rodarte yesterday, we couldn't help but notice that Taylor Swift's style had been somewhat influenced by the first lady of American fashion. Gone were the cascading curls and in their place a Wintour-esque bob. Admittedly it's a faux-bob, but we can't help but think that it really suits the superstar singer. Nicole Kidman joined Renee Bargh in flying the Aussie flag on the SAGs red carpet. Wearing her hair straight and pulled back into a teased up 'do, Nic opted for a side part and let wispy strands fall across her face. The hairstyle was finished with a jewelled barrette and all up, it had a chillaxed vibe to it. Nic upped the flutter with some faux lashes and wore a super-shiny raspberry gloss. Jennifer Lopez was the only star to switch up her beauty look to go from the red carpet to the after party, changing her style from a double ponytail, complete with bejewelled barrette to flowing big-bodied curls that were pinned back at the fringe (again with a blingin' hair slide) and at the side. The newly-signed L'Oréal ambassador kept her makeup (which included Volume Million Lashes mascara) the same for both, but which hairstyle do you like best?

TIP #1: This is a trend that you really can't get wrong. It's all about personal preference so relax and just have fun with it.
Things have been a wee bit quiet on the Scarlett Johansson front lately but with her new flick Iron Man 2 opening on April 29, that's all about to change. We've seen shots from the movie of Scarlett looking rather foxy: all leopard print-clad, pillowy pout and flowing red curls. Watch out, boys.
But the actress is more cutesy-girly in the May issue of InStyle accessorising her dark blonde locks with a diamond-encrusted barrette. It's very Shirley Temple and a far cry from the Ms. Va-Va Voom Voluptuousness that we're used to seeing. Perhaps she used up all her sex appeal for the latest Mango campaign? Perhaps she likes playing the '50s housewife now that she's snagged uber-hottie Ryan Reynolds? Whatever the reason, what do you think of her cute new style?
While I'm undecided on her frock (Fab loves it), I can't fault her hair and makeup. Opting for Old Hollywood glamour, Diane's curls have been pinned back with a jewelled barrette, once again proving that hair accessories are the must-have statement of the Golden Globes. Rose arrived on the red carpet looking flawless with her soft waves, perfectly accessorised with a jewelled barrette. I'm loving her slate grey and silver smoky eye: not too heavy, not too light. And rosy blush and a nude lip leave all the attention to the eyes. What do you think of the look?
