Brown isn't necessarily the most exciting hue in your makeup palette, but this Spring the somewhat drab colour has received a burst of new life. From rich caramel to shimmering coffee, this toasty tone was first spotted on the top Autumn/Winter fashion runways ranging from Dior to Rodarte. This neutral hue has replaced black as the smoky eye mainstay. Plus, it is a perfect update to your favourite neutral polishes. Café mocha, anyone?
2010 A/W Milan Fashion Week: Marni

OK, what is it with 1950s prescription-style glasses? Milan is loving them. I need to get me some. (Then figure out how to not look like a tool.) I really felt the '90s colour palette start to shine through at Marni; Tom Pecheux used khaki shadow on the eyes, a matte fawn on the lips and kept brows bold. Paul Hanlon said of the hair that he wanted it "to feel as if a woman had jumped in her car after a salon visit," and the elements had gotten the better of her. To me, the kooky, off-beat style kinda looked like they'd OD'd on the mousse. What do you think?
Love It or Hate It: Abbey Lee Kershaw's 1990s Brown Lip

I always love to see models off duty. We've seen them wear every different look under the sun on the runway, but off duty, well that's a different kettle of fish. Off duty, they've chosen what to wear, not the makeup director. Which means it's official: the '90s are back. Abbey Lee Kershaw (only our most famous runway model of the moment) wore the same dark brown lip colour at the ELLE Style Awards that I often sported while hanging around the common room back in '96. It was Rimmel then and it can still be Rimmel now with Moisturise Renew Lipstick in Plumful ($13.95). If you've got more cash to flash now it's 2010, you could always go for Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color in Dark Chocolate ($44). What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Katie Holmes' Glossy Brown Pout
Yesterday, at the Dizzy Feet Foundation Inaugural Celebration of Dance in Hollywood, Katie Holmes opted for a simple yet striking LBD and leather jacket combo that Fab loved.
She teamed it with a gorgeous cream blush and slightly dishevelled hair; all of which I loved. The only thing I'd have changed is the lip colour, to me – and this could just be me – a brown lip, even one with mauve undertones, is quite dated, making Katie look older than her years.
Still I just love the heavy under-eye shadow and dewy blush combo. What do you think of the look?
