Think Gwen Stefani, think platinum blonde hair, think red lipstick, right? Even when she does make a style change, it's often a subtle one and I can count on one hand the amount of times that I've seen her sans the scarlet lip colour. It's her thing. Which I totally dig. If it ain't broke, why fix it? In the July issue of UK InStyle, she says she's been wearing dark lipstick since the age of 18: "I can remember the moment I put it on — in my Honda Prelude that I bought for like, US$3,000 (approx $3,570) — and looking in the mirror going, 'Good, I like that'. Never again did I stop wearing it." She admits that she does actually mix it up, but hubby Gavin Rossdale prefers her in red so she sticks with it. What do you think, is she onto a good thing?
The focus of Missoni's makeup palette was a rich, deep wine lip. Lucia Pieroni used two MAC Lipsticks in Cyber (black-purple) and Hang-up (a deep berry) to create the look. I'm particularly loving the strong lip liner that artists (Charlotte Tilbury, in particular) are pulling out to signal the end of the trout pout. Hair was styled with the wet-look sides that we saw previously at DSquared2, though the Missoni tresses were also teased into a low chignon. Thoughts? (Apart from the obvious one that between Missoni and Lady Gaga, we need bigger sunnies . . .)
A bevy of beauties turned up to the semi-annual Art of Elysium charity bash in LA on Saturday night, but one in particular caught my eye: Ashley Olsen. Sporting a severe lip (with brows to match), the shade is in fact a deep burgundy, though it looks more black in photos. What do you think of her goth-glam look? If you're keen to try it out for yourself, check out MAC Lipstick in Black Knight ($35) or Ellis Faas Milky Lips in L202 ($52).
Melissa made the journey from Home and Away to Hollywood seem simple; always scoring top marks for her beauty and style choices. I was bowled over by her old Hollywood charm when she attended the opening of Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne earlier this month–the deep berry lip and loose Marcel waves really work against her porcelain skin. And of course it seemed only fitting that she should earn the award whilst on Australian soil.
Runners up: Rose Byrne, Toni Collette, Teresa Palmer and Isla Fisher. Good work flying the Aussie style flag girls!
