When we saw that Evan Rachel Wood was back to blonde again at this week's premiere of Mildred Pierce, we thought we'd do a little digging into her Hair Files, and boy, did we come up trumps! The 23-year-old actress had been blonde, brunette, red, worn her hair up, down, wavy, curly that it's almost hard to keep track! The natural blonde played around with warmer tones before switching to the dark side in '08, later that year saw her first foray into fiery red tones which had mellowed by the time she took to our screens in True Blood. Next it was brunette, blonde, strawberry blonde and now back to blonde . . .
Never one to stick with the same style for long, Lady Gaga posted this picture of herself on Twitter yesterday saying: "Dyed my bangs black. Its my new monsterlook. Let the mitosis of the future begin. Off to meet Judas." And unlike regular bangs — because Lady G never does anything too mainstream — it looks like the "Born This Way" singer gave herself a number two buzz cut and dyed that black. Interesting. Not for the faint of heart — but then, neither is a fragrance inspired by your own blood really — is it a look you love? Would you wear it?
Bieber's strands aren't the only ones in the spotlight today with la Internet speculating that the President himself, Mr. Barrack Obama, dyed his hair last week ahead of the all-important Chinese President Hu Jintao arriving in town. Let's take a look at the evidence, shall we. Exhibit A (aka the photo on the left) is of Obama singing "Happy Birthday" to his gorgeous wifey, Michelle, and yes, we spy more than a couple of grey hairs that obviously come with the job. But fast forward two days and, is it just us or is Obama's hair looking distinctly darker as he toasts his guest during a state dinner in DC? Huh. Could it really be. A president who dyes his hair. What say you, did Mr. President do a dye job? Which look do you prefer on him?
Well, lookee what we have here. It's Kate Moss with big 'n' bouncy brunette curls! We're used to Mossy playing it pretty safe with her look in Real Life — she's got the rock chick smudged kohl and bedhead hair down pat, and let's be honest, no one does it better than her — but when it comes to editorials, you never quite know what you're going to get. See. We just ADORE this Nick Knight picture for Vogue Italia's December issue. What a way to end the year. A cross between Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot with the super-sexy winged-out eye, nude lip and mass of brunette curls, she totes looks like a '60s Bond babe. Whaddya think?
Last week in NY, Ashley Greene headed to the Mark studio to chat about how she originally wanted to play Bella in Twilight and all things beauty. She is the spokeswoman for the brand that's seen to be the younger, more trend-focused sister of Avon after all. Ashley revealed her secret to looking fabulous on the go, the trend she's dying to try, spoke about her newly-dyed hair and more!
On how she got involved with Mark: "Initially, I was such a fan of the Mark products. I mean, every girl loves makeup. But the more research I did about Mark, the more I fell in love with its empowering message that they're sending to young women — that they can make their mark in the world, they can make a difference, have financial responsibility, and independence. It's really important to me, and it's something I love to encourage to do."
With X Factor judge and ex-WAG Cheryl Cole joining the Red Crusaders, it's only a matter of time before the masses start following the Glamour Woman of the Year winner. It's definitely shaping up to be this season's hottest hair hue with Carmen Kass turning heads on the Louis Vuitton runway thanks to her Miranda Hobbs-esque shop-stopping dye job.
Some of our favourite silver screen stars, like Rita Hayworth and Lucille Ball sported the fiery shade, and now modern-day sex symbols like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Christina Hendricks, Scarlett Johansson and Rihanna and all are trying the trend. Will you?
We're used to seeing Alessandra Ambrosio all bronzed and bubbly, classic Victoria's Secret stuff. But the Brazilian model is looking decidedly different on the September cover of LOVE Magazine. Her usually honey- and caramel-toned hair has been replaced by a grungy black hue, gone is the bronze-a-licious wash of colour on her skin, in its place a piercing porcelain white and brows — MIA. Bleached out in the style of Lara Stone, making way for the statement lip, a rich pop of orangey-red. Hmmm. It's striking and exactly what we've come to expect from the UK mag that featured a naked Beth Ditto on its cover and dressed Aggy up as Queen but is it a step too far? Was her RUSSH spread as edgy and raw as you we willing to see her? Or do you like that the Brazilian bombshell has stepped out of her box? Freaky or freakin' amazing?
A coupla months ago, we discussed the ins and outs of Abbie Cornish's new brunette 'do: it was a close call between love and hate, but love won out in the end. Which is good. We don't want a world full of haters after all. She seems to have kept the length — she's just being all sneaky and wearing it in a chignon with a gelled, deep part — but she's gone darker with her colour. It's all for her new role in W.E. which she's shooting in Paris at the mo. And even though she kind of had to do it for work an' all, I still want to know what you think of it . . .
Even though I am constantly going on about beauty being fun and there being no rules, there are certain things that are frowned upon. Let's call them The Don'ts. Trouble is, like anything forbidden, you'll always find yourself doing them . . .
The Don't: Ironing with your ghd
Why you do it: Because the iron is all the way over there
The Don't: See a bobby pin . . . steal a bobby pin
Why you do it: Because someone's obviously doing it to you. Your collection should total at least 8,973 by now
It seems blondes don't always have the most fun. Redheads do. So say Christina Hendricks, Miranda Hobbs and True Blood's Deborah Ann Woll who plays baby vamp — bamp — Jessica on the hit show. Yep, Deb is the latest star to come clean about her natural blonde locks. She told MARKTBeauty.com (which, FYI is fast becoming one of my favourite blogs . . . I can't wait for the Lea Michele August cover) that she made the change aged 15, five years older than Christina, and that it's totally for keeps: "being a redhead is part of my identity. I might go blonde for a role, but I’ll always be a redhead." But the biggest reveal is, she dyes her own hair using L'Oreal Excellence Crème Color in Light Reddish Blonde. Sadly this shade isn't stocked here, but try L'Oreal Excellence Crème Color in 834 Golden Copper Blonde ($19.95) instead.
