This week it was either all about the hair or the bold lip. We had some gorgeous hairspiration from Zooey Deschanel, who picked a poufy ponytail for the 2011 Summer TCA Tour, and newlywed Princess Charlene of Monaco, who went for a retro rolled hairstyle that oozed glamour. Kate Bosworth is the latest to join the Dip-Dye Posse, showcasing her new aqua-tipped 'do at Coldplay's LA concert last night. She joins Lauren Conrad, Ke$ha, Britney Spears and Dianna Agron who have all dabbled with the trend recently. And whilst Proenza Schouler's Spring/Summer 2010 show can take credit for the first-round of celebrity followers, which included Ashley Olsen, but Fendi's Autumn/Winter 2011 show seems to have influenced the latest crop. The feather hair extensions craze may be sweeping Hollywood, but colourfully streaked hair is still making waves also. During A/W 2011 Fashion Week in Milan, Fendi models walked the runway wearing voluminous chignons topped off with streaks of colour in the back. And now we're seeing the look gaining in popularity on the red carpet with British singer Jessie J adding a deep magenta streak to her hair at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards earlier this month. Also sporting the trend: Ke$ha, Jordin Sparks, Alice Dellal and Britney Spears. Give the trend a closer inspection now . . .
Selita Ebanks is truly the master of switching up her style. Over the course of the past few months, she's been seen wearing her cute bob in an impressive amount of varied ways, as well as busting out the braids and brightening things up with a cherry-red wig! And now, she has a whole new look. At this week's Hope For Children Gala in NYC, Selita walked the red carpet debuting this asymmetric, two-toned crop. Do you think it's a style she should stick with?
Jessie J was also switching things up for the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, trading in her signature Cleopatra bob for a long, old Hollywood style, complete with retro finger waves and a red streak running throughout. It's a total departure from her usual look, but she's still managed to make it her own. Also MIA is her punchy red pout; in its place, a softer baby pink gloss. The rest of her makeup palette centres around beautifully-defined brows, a soft wash of pink of the cheeks and a heavy upper lash line that's been given a helping hand with some falsies. Dianna Agron surprised us all when she chopped off her long blonde locks last month — but now she's got the bug, sharing another of her style switcheroo's on Twitter over the weekend. Posing with Internet phenomenon Keenan Cahill, and in a separate shot with castmate Harry Shum Jr., Dianna showed off her newly-streaked strands, complete with feathered hair extensions. It's one part Daphne Guinness, one part Hilary Duff, who was one of the first celebs on our radar sporting the trendy extensions. What do you think of Dianna's new hairstyle?
We had a funny sense of déjà vu when we first laid eyes on Vogue Australia's May 2011 issue. The cover and inside 'I Want Candy' spread features Julia Nobis wearing punk-style yellow and pink hair streaks. Very Gaga! And very Vogue Australia around the change of season, we've noticed — it was for the March '10 issue (still one of our faves) that Abbey Lee got her tips dipped in yellow. Which hair streak cover gets your vote: Julia's or Abbey Lee's?
Yesterday in Milan, models walked the runway wearing their hair in voluminous chignons featuring streaks of red or pastel blue woven throughout the back. Beveled plastic headbands in similarly bright and bold shades topped off the look. It was teamed with a gunmetal eye that saw the shadow used as under-eye liner and taken right up to the brow bone.
