Big lashes are big news. Fact. They’re the not-so-secret secret of the makeup industry and play a key part in many-a-celeb look. From Miley Cyrus' va-va-voom look to a few individual lashes to boost your outer lash line, they're versatile. And definitely worth perfecting. Trouble is, most of us mere mortals hate them. Because we don't have a makeup artist on hand 24-7 to help us apply the slippery little suckers. But fear not, I quizzed MAC’s Senior Makeup Artist, Nicole Thompson and got her tips on perfecting a false flutter.
Go about your lashes the normal way: curl them, apply mascara and separate with a fan brush (very, very important) first. This will help you see what areas need a little more help.
Told you to be pumped didn't I. Never before have we seen 16 girls on Australia's Next Top Model dumped at Fashion Week on their first day.Pressure! Fab was eyeing their catwalk struts, but I was all about their photoshoot with photographer/judge Jez Smith. The inspiration was Mad Men. Think Betty Draper meets Grace Kelly (cue total devastation when the girls heckled, "Who's Grace Kelly? Seriously what are they teaching kids these days) and classic '50s and '60s styling. LOVE. Two girls completely nailed the look for me: Kelsey and Chantal. So I caught up with TRESemmé Head Stylist Joh Bailey to see how he created their looks . . .
STEP 2: Create a fairly deep side part, then clip up the top section of hair and working from the front and bottom, section off hair into medium sized curlers. Work through all the hair and then spray with TRESemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray.
I think we’ve talked about the big, high bun enough to know that (aside from braids) it’s one of our favourite hairstyles and a winner when you need a quick up-do. If you still haven’t mastered it yet, you’re in luck, as Jacen Ward from The Creative Group shared his top tips for a style like Olivia Palermo’s . . .
STEP 1: Prepare the hair by blow-drying with Goldwell Inner Effect Repower Root Lift Spray ($27.95) to give body and shine.
STEP 2: Softly brush hair back into a high pony and secure with a tie.
STEP 3: Use Inner Effect Repower Hairspray ($27.95) to smooth any fly-aways around the hair line. Then wrap the hair around, twisting it slightly. Make sure you hide the hair tie.
STEP 4: Secure with bobby pins all the way around the chignon.
STEP 5: Finish with the Goldwell Styling Radiant Star ($20.95) to give your hair a brilliant shine.
And voilà! There you have it. A beautiful, simple and classic look.
You should know by now that Sugar HQ is braid-crazy. The latest style making us want to get our plait on? The lace braid. It’s basically like a French braid that goes across the top of your head but you only add hair to one side of the braid. Lauren Conrad wore the gorgeous style back in March. Here's how to get it for yourself . . .
Step 1: Separate the section of your hair to be braided — the hair just around the crown of your head — from the rest of your hair.
Step 2: This braid usually goes from ear to ear — but you can start it at your part à la LC — so start braiding either above or just behind one ear as you would a French braid. (Warning: tired arms ahead!) Keep reading . . .
You've already learned that her on-screen alter-ego's red ringlets are all about precision tonging, but that big mass of curls might not be for everyone. This style however is perfectly pretty all-year 'round and even though it looks great if you've got Bryce's length, you can still recreate it if you have a lob. LOVE. Wear with a cute dress and bold lip for a statement Saturday night look that says you haven't tried too hard. David Babaii created the look using Moroccanoil products, here's what he did.
STEP 1: Apply a small amount of Moroccanoil® Treatment ($49.50) on damp hair before blow-drying. It absorbs super quickly and cuts drying time in half.
STEP 2: Work some Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream ($44.50) into the palms of your hands and finger-comb hair. Next, make a centre part, and begin to create loose waves using a curling tong.
Step 3: Gently tease the hair at the crown to create a little '60s volume and then pin back at small section on either side. Leave the loose waves cascading down your back.
In Eclipse, Victoria is known for two things: her viciousness and her curly red ringlets. The beautifully bouncy hairstyle is a perfect statement look and ode to the '90s. Celeb stylist Philip Carreon shares his easy-to-follow steps to recreate the look. Time to channel your inner vamp:

When I saw Terry Richardson's pictures of Lara Stone in the June/July issue of Vogue Paris sporting some marvellous milkmaid braids, I knew it was time to start re-wearing the trend that was so popular back in '08/09. I LOVE the contrast between the soft style and Lara's dramatically lined eye and bold red lip, but if you'd prefer to tone it down, of course feel free. Check out more pics below and then keep reading for tips on how to recreate this style:
The Pob 2.0 is turning out to be a much softer, less structured affair, that's easy to recreate thanks to these tips from celeb stylist Ken Paves, who styled Victoria Beckham's voluminous waves for the LG phones party in LA earlier this week. "Victoria chose an outfit in a nude shade that was modern, yet feminine, clean and sexy," Ken said. "I decided the hair needed to be clean [and] simple with some slight texture to seem effortless, just like the clothes," he added. Here's what you need to do:
Apply a shine serum on already-dried hair, using the majority of the product on the ends. Try Joico Silk Result Sheer Gloss Shine Serum ($25.95).
Next, use a one-inch curling tong to curl random pieces. For a piecy effect, curl some strands toward the face and some toward the back.
Set with a firm hairspray for hold and shine, such as Tigi Love, Peace and the Planet Free Ur Mind Firm Hold Hairspray ($36.95).
The Spring/Summer 2010-11 hair look for Fernando Frisoni's models was dubbed "Sao Paulo Subterraneo" backstage. It was created by ghd's Alan White and again featured two different textures: wet-look on top, loose and dry on the bottom. As you may have noticed, it's been a BIG trend this Fashion Week, so we got the lowdown on the how-to from Alan . . .
STEP 1: Take a section of the hair, no higher than the occipital bone and blow-dry into the nape of the neck. Work ghd maximise mousse through the ends for hold.
STEP 2: Using your ghd styler, put a 2-inch long, loose wave through the ends, making sure that you go no higher than the nape of the neck.
