Need some Halloween makeup inspiration? You've come to the right place. Here at POPSUGAR Australia, we're getting into it this year. We've all got scary parties to attend, where we'll be using everyday beauty products to get our desired, spooky beauty looks. From a blood-splattered evil nurse to Frida Khalo's mono-brow, click through.
As we settle snugly into Winter, the makeup look gets smokier, darker and sexier. While nail art takes a back seat, deep metallics and shiny, dark solids will reign supreme on fingertips this season. Jump on board with one of these decadent nail polish picks.
The Sugar team welcomed a new member this week — Steph! She's our new health and beauty writer, so lookout for her name on both Bella and POPSUGAR Health & Fitness. Aside from new staff member excitement, we're also gearing up for a weekend of relaxation before fashion week on April 8. Of course we need new nail polish, makeup and hairstyling products to go alongside our Easter eggs! Click through.
Have you ever fallen so hard for a product or beauty tool that you shout it from the rooftops? That's our beauty ed, Alison, with the Clarisonic. Everyone said it would change her life (and skin), and they weren't wrong. At all. In other beauty buying news, Gen is going rubber on the nails, and Marisa is keeping diligent with her laser hair removal. Wanna know where she goes? Click through.
Whether you're one to follow trends or not, nails are the easiest way to jump on a new beauty look — and jump we do. But there's no denying that when all the trends (nail art, anyone?) die down, there are a few colours that every woman reverts to. Red is one of them. It's a true classic, one of those rare breeds that goes with everything and suits everyone. Here, we've pulled ten of the best red shades we could find. If you work in a conservative office environment, there's a raspberry-hued version for you. If you can go all out, why not go the sparkly crimson for a bit of fun? Or if you like to keep things simple, you can never go wrong with a bright, cherry red. Tip: keep your nails short. While we loved Ashley Madekwe's talons a few weeks ago, they might not be appreciated as much in the office. Click through for our picks!
Happy Friday! Once again, our week at Sugar has been filled with lots of hard work, and many fun moments to sweeten the deal along the way. At first, we were transfixed by an infamous television event, but our attention quickly turned to the many amazing A/W '13 items that we got to peek at. From luscious silks and prints to mixed-metal necklaces, FabSugar editor Ali was up to her ears in pretty new pieces. BellaSugar kept busy with new nail polish reviews, bagloads of mascara and something even more exciting (you'll have to see inside!), while PopSugar was hitting movie screenings and trying out the tacos at a pop-up bar near our office. There was plenty more keeping us busy, though — click through to check it all out!
Last week revealed Illamasqua's new Rubber Brights Nail Varnish, and this week, we bring you Speckled Nail Varnish ($22.50 each). Limited edition and reminiscent of a speckled egg, we've got an exclusive look at the collection, set to drop in store at Myer on January 31. The polish is semi-sheer on the first coat, but you'll have the full effect by the second. Be sure to add a high-shine top coat for maximum mani power, and why not mix the colours and wear a cute combination across both hands? Pastels are great like that. Click through to see the colours up close — we know what we'll be wearing on our talons this Easter...
After dabbling with matte nail polish and not feeling overly impressed with the end result, I was really curious to try the new rubber finish. I'd read a bit about it and knew Illamasqua had a really cool collection coming out, so I'm delighted to introduce to you: Rubber Brights Nail Varnish ($21 each). We have a sneaky first look at the range up close, and I think nail polish aficionados will be really impressed. After your base coat, you only need two thin coats to get the full gumboot effect, and its super fast drying. Like, to the tune of 30 seconds per coat.
My heart went straight for Prosperity — the royal purple — and if you keep clicking, you can see it on my nails. The colours were inspired by the dominatrix Rubber Boot Girl of 1920s Berlin fame, which is very Illamasqua. Always loud, always proud. Love it.
