We're used to seeing Scarlett Johansson all long, tousled hair, y'know, just like she was at the MTV Movie Awards last month. Then there's the cute up 'dos and curly curls that she wore for her Dolce & Gabbana rose the one fragrance and May InStyle cover, all of which helped her get to number six on the Most Beautiful Women in the World list. But ScarJo hasn't debuted a change in length for quite some time now so we were a little surprised, in a good way, to spot this shoulder-grazing tousled bob at Comic-Con over the weekend. Thoughts? You like?
Would you have guessed this was Natalie Portman if I hadn't told you? She looks so different, doesn't she? Especially the shot on the right. They're visuals from her upcoming movie Black Swan, which is directed by Rachel Weisz's man, Darren Aronofsky. Are you a fan of Natalie's transformation into a Swan Lake ballerina, complete with arm makeup and the stunning eye plumage? Or do you hate the way that it's messed with her natural beauty?
Marc Jacobs and his party posse were in London last night, celebrating his upcoming fragrance BANG, which launches here October 24. He managed to pull in quite the crowd: Jaime Winstone, Daisy Lowe, Beth Ditto and Jesus Luz. But all eyes were on Mischa Barton. Known for her sometimes, ahem, dishevelled appearance, the young actress looked smokin' thanks to killer blush and shadow application. It had a similar feel to January Jones' MET Gala look — the exaggerated block of colour — but Mischa also threw a classic winged eye in there, too. Interesting. But somehow it works. I love the whole rock 'n roll meets pretty girl vibe that's extended through her hair and makeup. Don't too? Or not so much?
I love Paul & Joe Beauté. Its old-worldly packaging gets me every time. Most recently we saw them kitsch it up with an Alice in Wonderland collaboration and the deal was sealed. It was love forever after. Until now. See its latest lipsticks are, well kooky to say the least. First up, before you open the casing, you think typical Paul & Joe stuff: Ooh pretty, me want. LOVE the soft, feminine designs. But crack this baby open and you'll think, "What's new pussycat?" Oh, just that the lipsticks themselves are etched out to form the faces of kittens. Riiiight. As you do. I am creeped out, man. Sure lots of people like cats, but on lipstick?? Hmmm. Thoughts?
I love a good twist on the French manicure. 'Tis why I love YSL's Rock & Baroque duos so appealing. But I'm not so sure about Jennifer Love Hewitt's take on the trend. She was in Vegas to promote her new movie, The Client List, and at first I was all about how much a fringe suits her. Sure, it's not styled ah-mazingly here but it really works well on her. Then I noticed it. The nails. The yellow tips. My first thought was gross. My second was the same. It's not that it's bad, bad, but more unexpected, I guess. It's not your usual nail look. Or even your usual alternative nail look. What do you think? You rate it?
If we focus purely on Ashley Greene's hair and makeup at the 2010 ESPY Awards — ignoring the '90s halterneck dress — then I've got to say girl looks good. She is LOV-ing the ol' hair extensions but hers look shiny, natural and not too scraggly at the ends so we can all BREATHE. The loose curl worked throughout, I like. The orange-red lip. Bravo, Ash. Bravo. January would be proud. The thick '60s-style liner. Obviously looks good, despite you going against Peter's advice. But again, it all comes back to the dress. When the same colour fabric is worn in such close proximity to the lipstick (ie. crawling up the neck), it just all kind of falls apart. Don't you think? Do you rate the look or not?
If you haven't of Paloma Faith, well, she's doing her best to get on your radar. The singer-songwriter-sometime-actress (she appeared in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) took to the stage at Scottish music festival, T in the Park. Paloma, who's known for her distinct style, wore a typically outlandish outfit which included this unusual head piece. Less Jessica Rabbit, more Marge Simpson gets a blowout and dyes her hair red, it's a little odd, but given how wigs took off after Lily Allen's persistence with them last year, who am I to say that we won't all be wearing foam hair in a coupla months. What do you think of Paloma's look?
Christina Hendricks brings her fierce style to the cover of LA Times Magazine. Wearing feline liner and a creamy berry lipstick, the Mad Men star explains that her decision to go from blonde to racy redhead happened when she was just 10 years old and obsessed with Anne of Green Gables. Instead of discouraging her, her mum took her to a chemist to get some packet dye and the rest, as they say, is history. "I was over the moon. I went to school the next day and felt like myself." What do you think of Christina's look? Very doll-like isn't she?
When in Rome Paris, it seems only appropriate to select a French 'do. Trouble is, while classic, the styles can verge on being a little structured for some. Think: French plait, French roll, classic chignon. All lovely, but all can have the tendency to look dated. But Jessica Alba knows how to add a little sumthin' sumthin' to jazz up a simple style so she wore her chignon (which really means a bun worn at the nape of the neck, in case you weren't sure) wavy and tousled front row at Christian Dior Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week A/W 2011. Teamed with her lightly smoked eye and Penelope Pitstop sunnies, I think it's très bon, you?
Hilary Duff, the little minx, tried to sneak this braid past us at the Love, Loss and What I Wore cast celebration and thought we wouldn't notice. Pfft. As if. Now that Chuck has left the building Braid Watch is our number one hobby. For a second there though, I thought the Hilster had gone for the chop, getting a jaw-skimming bob, but really, what she actually did was leave a lot of chunky layers out and just braid the length. She finished the style off with a piece of purple fabric, which co-ordinated rather nicely with her lavender eyeshadow. Thoughts?
